Hi! :)

So, I have two cats! Well, technically one isn't mine yet until I go fill out the paperwork at PURR Partners, but she's one of our fosters so she already lives with me. ;) The other is a stray kitten that ran up to me from under a bush in our garden about a month and a half ago. We have other cats (mostly fosters) but these two are my fiscal responsibility, and I'm trying to find them a good wet food that's not too expensive since my only source of income is a part time vet assistant job right now, and I also have 6 rats to feed and house.

So, does anyone know of any good grain/gluten free wet foods that are reasonably priced? That comes in a variety of flavors because Effie, the stray kitten, is SO picky. I finally found one she liked and it's Instinct Nature's Variety, but she of course liked the rabbit kind... which is like $40 for a 24 pack of 3 oz. cans and with two cats I'd be using an estimated two 3 oz. cans a day. lol. I tried EVO, but she won't eat it (I probably wouldn't either it has what look like carrot chunks in it). She would sniff it, and ignore it, and when I let her out of my room she would run over to the science diet our fosters get and gobble it up lol.

And any good grain free dry foods that even picky cats like? I bought a little bag of Kitten CORE food but she won't eat that either. So I've been feeding it to the stray boy that hangs around, Oreo. :p

Also, how do I tell how much I should feed a cat each day? We always have a mix of science diet adult and kitten food out for everyone during the day since we have cats of all ages, but how much wet food should I feed my cats in the morning and at night? Everyone else just splits a big 5.5 oz can of wet food between two bowls so they can all reach XD (except Bast, she isn't pushy enough so we put a little in a bowl just for her!)

...sorry about all the questions. I'm a cat noob, but I love learning about my pets. I am obsessed with rat nutrition. :p Thanks!

If you would like to learn more about feline nutrition, here are two good sites for that. www.catinfo.org and www.catcentric.org. Catinfo.org has a comparison chart of canned foods broken down by protein/fat/carbs to help you make some good choices.

Kittens should generally be fed as much as they
like. The guideline for adult, neutered, indoor only cats is about 20 calories per pound of ideal weight daily.

I have heard that the big 12 oz cans of Nature's Variety Instinct are the same as the smaller ones. You can find them in the dog section. They are much cheaper per oz.
