So we took in a stray kitten who almost got hit by a car ..long story bout this kitten he belonged to some one we knew who dumped him outside cause she no longer wanted him ...but he was 5 months old ..I know horrible but some how this boy made it bk here to us we confirmed who he was and are keeping him with us from now on..he's about a year old now ..he's a Russian blue boy amazing in every way .

But we noticed he's got diareah now for the past 3 days ..he eats friskies for kittens ..no table food no treats yet ...and drinks allot ..but he's so skinny too so hopefully good food will get him bk up there in health ..any ideas what it could be ? The past owner said he's dewormed and vaccinated .

How long was he outside? He may need to be dewormed again...

Friskies for kittens dry food? Dry food isn't very good for cats, and Friskies dry is very low quality with a lot of species-inappropriate filler ingredients like corn and wheat. Any of those could be upsetting his although his change in environment and food could also be contributing. If you could feed as much wet food as possible, it would be better for him in the long run. Friskies pates and Fancy Feast classic pates are some decent less expensive options.

If you would like to learn more about feline nutrition and some of the related health issues, www.catinfo.org is written by a vet and full of great info.

Well the so called last owner dumped him outside at 5 months old so im guessing for the past 8 months hes been outside on his own.. his eyes, mouth, ears butt are very clean , his fur is silky no shedding or matting so  im hoping this diareah is most likely due to food changes or just basic enviorment changing from the stress of it all .

He eats allot but small amounts and is drinking loads :) his pee is normal smelling and no bloody or spots ..same for his poop its a light brown but very soft and stinky but no traces of blood not slimy at all ..no worms that  i can see .. he did wipe his butt on my floor once so i washed his bum with warm water and he hasent done it yet ..

Now when he first got into my house he went straight to the food bowl of my 120lbs dog lol ate her food and my hubby gave him milk !!! i know both big no no's but i was not there to stop it in time .

I will go get him some good canned food i dont care bout price thats for sure my dog eats the best kind of holistic food so will blue :)

Thank you for taking the poor guy in! I have to agree that he probably needs another round of deworming. Cats living and eating outside pick up worms easily and 8 months of being outside on his own, it's pretty likely he did.

Dry food diet changes when done rapidly will cause loose stools or diarrhea. I am sure once he is settled on a reg diet it will stop.

Has he been vet checked yet? This is something you should do asap, just as a normal health check. This is recommended when acquiring any new pet, even through adoption. Bring as fresh a stool sample as you can obtain. The vet may recommend booster vaccinations as he is now 1 yr old.

Good luck with your new furbaby!
