Hello all. My cat had one kitten 7 weeks ago. The kitten is very sociable and loves to be out and playing with all of us. Lately when my son (he is almost 4) goes near the kitten Mama growls and sometimes scratches him. She has also done this with my daughter's friend (both of the children are loud at times and high strung). I am not sure what to do. We plan to keep the kitten, but is this how Mama is going to be all of the time now? I don't feel like the kids should have to stay out of a certain area (my daughter's bedroom) or tip toe around. Any ideas??

Thanks so much!!!
Jamie

Is this a new thing?  Has she only behave like this since having the kitten?  Or are the children a little more rowdy?

I'd really suggest getting Mama cat checked out by the vet as UTIs and any number of other illnesses can make cats grumpy, and it may be triggered by the children interacting with the kitten.

If she's OK, then having her spayed could also make a big difference.

And, of course, making sure the children are really gentle with the kitten.

Yes it is just since the kitten came along. I am making an appointment to get her spayed so hopefully that will help. It's funny because she doesn't mind the kids being around the kitten, she just doesn't want them near her. Thanks for your response!!
