Hi, I apologize if this is the wrong forum I just signed up after days of searching on google for answers. I have a new mama calico named Princess. She had four kittens about 54 hours ago. Her teats look pretty sore and I've been on google trying to find anything I can use that's safe for mama and her babies. I read a yahoo! Answers response where the responder said that she had a kitten who needed surgery but the poor things skin was coming off and her vet recommended Vitamin A from gel capsules and that it was safe for the kitten to ingest. Now I'm not trying to takeanswers so I've been googling like crazy for anything about vitamin A in cats and have come up short. Now finally (I also apologize for the long post), my questions are does anyone have any history with vitamin A and cats? Do you think it will soothe my poor mamas teats and still be safe for the kittens to ingest? I'd put it on right after a feeding of course but still. Any answers are appreciated I am very new at this. Thank you!

The vitamin A oil should be fine.  I have heard from a vet it is OK and would not hurt the kitten to lick a little of it.

Or I've heard of people using olive oil.

or there is a product for cows called Bag Balm

You can also put  use some warm compresses.   Sometimes they can get a condition where the milk sort of gets caked inside the teats just before they have the kittens or at the beginning of lactation.   Nursing itself may relieve it ,  but using warm compresses held against her teats several times a aday may help ease it if it's getting blocked, and could help prevent it turning into mastitis.
