We only have a few pet stores near us and I was wondering what most of you would consider the best dry food. We have Petco and petsmart ... And thats it. I am feeding Emma half wet and half dry, I plan to eventually put her on a BARF diet but they are all a little out of our budget.

The best dry foods I know of are Wysong Epigen 90, Ziwipeak and Young Again Zero Carb. None of those are available at Petco or Petsmart. I have only seen those at smaller natural pet food stores. I did an analysis and found that a homemade frankenprey diet is cheaper than a good quality all canned diet.

Frankenprey or Prey Model Raw is feeding raw in chunks/slices of muscle meat / bone / liver / other secreting organ in 80% / 10% / 5% / 5% proportions. I think when you say BARF you are referring to ground raw. Without the expense of a grinder, your cost is your meat cost. So, say for example you can get meat for $2/lb. If your cat eats 4oz raw (which is fairly typical), your daily cost is 50 cents.

Some good resources to check out if you are interested is the resources thread at the top of the Raw Feeding Forum and www.catcentric.org.

Yeah i don't think my boyfriend would be for that ... And I dont feel that I could make a balanced diet.

I would really just like to know the best dry foods for her for now. At least the best i can get ... I think there is also a tractor supply and I can order online if the costs are reasonable. Its just better for us to be able to grab it from the store.

We only have a few pet stores near us and I was wondering what most of you would consider the best dry food.

I would say the best dry are Wysong Epigen: http://www.wysongepigen.net/epigen90.php and EVO, the Turkey and Chicken formula: http://www.naturapet.com/products/1441.

We have Petco and petsmart ... And thats it.

The best dry food, available at Petco and PetSmart is: Nature's Variety Instinct. IMHO, the best formula is :http://www.naturesvariety.com/Instinct/cat/kibble/duck.

I am feeding Emma half wet and half dry,

That is very very good
.

I plan to eventually put her on a BARF diet but they are all a little out of our budget.

Please note, I have been feeding whole live prey for years. I only used the Wysong dry as a "snack" for my pure Leptailurus serval. But, the domestics I had, at the time did very very well on it. When I had my F3 Savannah, his "snack" was the EVO dry cat food listed above. It was the only commercial diet, the F3 Savannah could digest. The domestics (I still have two of them) did great on that dry food. While, I have never trued the Nature's Variety Instinct mentioned above, I know people that have used it for YEARS and there cats look GREAT!

I found this Honest Kitchen BARF diet ... Its dehydrated but I think that may be best thing for us. Its about the same cost as her dry but it should be much better for her.

Since the day I got Emma I have been trying to give her the very best I can.

My cats didn't like The Honest Kitchen at all (I tried both cat food flavors). BUT, I've heard you can also mix it with raw or cooked meat, although I haven't tried it yet. That might be more palatable.

Nature's Variety is good, but the bone percentage is a bit high and some cats get constipated on it. You can give some boneless meat to "dilute" the bone ratio.

Variety is best! No reason to pick just one or two foods.

I plan to pick one base food and just mixing a little wet food in now and then. My cat has a sensitive tummy. I also found grandma lucys too ... Which I am leaning towards with her.
