What appeared to be a "little ball of wax" in Mazy cat's ear was not shifted with the treatment. Mazy had a re-check today. Vet flushed the ear out today, it didn't budge. Soaked up all the liquid and looked again, and showed me. Some kind of round brown ball lurking down there looking (to me) sinister. Another, smaller one, next to it.

Mazy is going in next Wednesday and be put under to have it removed. And sent to pathology.

During that procedure they'll get the urine (for her re-check), and I've asked that it be cultured this time. In addition, because of her regurgitation history, I asked she do some x rays of Mazy cat's insides. Vet doesn't really think there is anything wrong in there, and either do I, but I am willing to pay an extra $87 for peace of mind.

Adding my prayers that the growth is something benign.

Thank you guys. The hardest part will be the fasting. NO food after 8 pm the night before. Her surgery is scheduled for 11:20 on Wednesday. Usually they have all surgery patients dropped off between 8 and 9 a.m. but my vet is making a special accommodation for Mazy cat, I don't have to bring her in until 11 a.m. While that is good, as far as reducing the stress of waiting so long, not feeding all morning will be a bit difficult.

Still, better for her to be here, than sitting in the carrier there for 3 hours.

I don't worry too much about the anesthesia, my vet uses ONLY sevoflurane on my cats. And they will put her back in her carrier post surgery rather than put her in a stainless steel cage!

I wonder if she'd be willing to nick off that bit of tartar on her back tooth at the same time. Hmmmm...

Good grief I almost forgot and took them out! When Mazy eats grass, unless she brings it right back up (which she almost never does) it can sit in her stomach for days. That could have been a real problem if she had grass in her stomach while going under anesthesia!

Fortunately I remembered in time. Even before I said the O word, thankfully. I was just about to reach for their harnesses and say "time to go out!" It would have been awful of me to tell them they were going out, and then not take them. :lol3:

Help.

I seem to be having a hard time staying positive about this for some reason. Trying not to dread the night before and morning of, with the fasting, that is going to be very hard on everyone but I keep telling myself, we'll just get through it somehow.

Mazy, other than her two well visits a year (with blood work and cystocentesis) has never had to go to the vet for anything else, has never had to be left at the vet since the time 7 years ago when we found out about her stainless steel cage phobia.

I know no cat likes going to the vet, but Mazy is one of those cats who really really suffers during her vet visits.

I'm not even allowing myself to think of the "what ifs", when those things are removed. I just feel full of dread and very depressed.

Help.

Your vet knows you and your kitties very well. Mazy is in good hands, and I'm sure she'll be doted on while you need to leave her there. Try to focus on that. :heart2:

Remember to include something that smells like you in her crate, as they'll be allowing her to stay there to recover after the procedure. And if catnip helps her, maybe include a little catnip in the crate? :dk:

It is by definition stressful to fast our cats and leave them at the vet for any procedure. Just keep reminding yourself that this is what is best for her, and that little growths like this are usually benign.

You always find a way to be strong for your kitties, and you will now, for Mazy. :heart2:

I know EXACTLY how you're feeling ... and I can only offer prayers and vibes, and please know that both you and Mazy will get through it.  But, yes, it's the toughest thing in the world while you're going through it.

Thanks you guys. Gah, I am a mess. The fasting is going to be murder. No food after 8 p.m. tonight. No food in the morning, I am not bringing her in until 11.

Normal drop off times for surgeries is betwwn 8-9, but my vet has made an exception for Mazy to reduce her stress, Mazy's surgery is scheduled for 11:20, and I don't have to bring her in until 11.

Bringing her there, leaving her there..ugh. I hope they put her under quickly, quickly! The sooner she is asleep, the less stress she will feel.

I hope those evil looking things are just polyps that lift right out.

8 pm to 11 am that's a long fast. Is it really necessary to fast that long? I thought 12 hours was sufficient?

Gail, you and Mazy cat are in my thoughts and prayers.  Hopefully she'll get through the fasting and the surgery tomorrow without being terribly traumatized.

Sending you more hugs for strength and encouragement.

Well I solved the no food after 8 pm last night by simply going to bed after I fed them. I turned off all the lights but the bedroom and read in bed, they all came to bed (well Queen Eva stayed up and played and sang for a long while). I slept as long as I could this morning, but still there is a three hour stretch before we have to leave and Mazy is sitting here staring at me saying prrt PRRT every time I look at her. As time passes the prrts are getting more urgent. I tried distracting her with play, but she doesn't want to play she wants to eat.

The other two are used to waiting, so they are not fussing yet.

I've explained it all to her a couple of times and she listened intently. No way to know how much she understands, but I think it's important to tell her anyway, I think they understand way more than they let on.

Thank you all for your support, it helps more than I can express.

PS Laurie I double checked with the vet, she was adamant about the 8 pm cut off. True, Mazy has a slow motility rate,. On the other hand even that 12 hour fast rule is based on kibble fed cats not a cat who has raw as her last meal. But..I didn't want to take a risk, because of Mazy's slower than usual digestion.

Yeah, I figured it was Mazy-specific. But you asked, and that's what matters. Nice to know your vet knows your kitty so well. :heart2:

That was a smart move, Gail! :hugs:

And more :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: and :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: for Mazy - and you - today.

Thanks Laurie. Leaving her was a shattering experience. It always is, with any of my cats, but with Mazy it was ten times worse. I left the house too early, so Mazy and I went for a drive first. I know that wasn't nice for her either, but it was better than an extra half hour at the vet. By now she is hopefully under sedation and knows nothing.

She's done!!! Still groggy, in her carrier.

No polyps, or growths, just a lot of wax and some other stuff, deep in the drum that my vet isn't sure what it is, she's going to be looking at the stuff in the microscope in a little while, to see if it's bacteria or yeast or what.

Scraped a little tartar off her back upper molars, (by my request) no dental needed, her teeth and gums look great. I asked the vet to do that to hopefully prolong the need for a dental. I don't want to go through this again in a hurry.

X rays show nothing abnormal in her innards.

I'll be picking her up later this afternoon, after work.
