how long to give steroids?

I've been giving my cat steroids (prednisolone)  for 7 days and he seems much better now...he has pancreatitis and tumors on liver and spleen.  do you need to taper off the pred after 7 days?  or only after 2 weeks or more?

Is you cat under a vet's care. He should be if he is taking a steroid. They usually tell you what the plan is when they put the cat on steroids. They try to taper them. Steroids should never be suddenly stopped. My cat has had liver cancer, with a tumor being removed last year in May. He was tapererd off, but the vet had to increase them again as he says there is now another tumor. Sometimes the cat just has to continue taking the steroid to keep feeling well and living.

Call the vet who put you cat on the steroids and ask. That is the best plan. Because we don't really know your cat's history, nobody here can advise you what to do that would be in your cat's best interest. Good luck.
