It's a supplement to support healthy digestive tract. I had Maia on Iflora pet probiotics for a couple years, then the company stopped making that line. I had a very difficult time finding anything to replace it so I tried her on a human strain from same company, very similar ingredients but ofcourse small dosage. Unfortunately she had an allergic reaction to it, she developed scabs on the bottom sides of her mouth. As soon as I stopped it went away. The problem was that when she went off of the probiotics, her poop became very shriveled up, dry, and she was sometimes constipated.

After an endless search for pet probiotics at pet stores and on line, I finally found this local, privately owned pet store where I found Pet Naturals of Vermont Daily Digest Cat Chews.    They are not the same as the probiotics, but they are definitely helping.

Interesting that she can't take human probiotics.

I've tried a different product by Pet Naturals of Vermont...a hairball product if I'm not mistaken.  None of my furkids would eat them.

I'm glad you found a replacement that works for Maia

Yeah, I was really surprised by the allergic reaction to human probiotics myself. I did a lot of research and compared the ingredients, gave her very small amount each evening in her wet food. 5 days later while she was snuggled in my legs play biting my hand I felt these scabs on each side of her lower mouth. I panicked thinking it was another bacterial skin infection, but within a few days of taking her off them it cleared up.

She won't eat the supposed tasty treat either
I have  to cut them up and mix them into her wet dinner. She is so spoiled but so am I to have her!

I don't like all the unnecessary ingredients:

Maltodextrin, soy lecithin, oat flour, barley flour, rice flour, rye flour, oat meal, natural duck flavor, brewers dried yeast, canola oil, glycerin, amylase (from Aspergillus oryzae), protease (from Aspergillus oryzae), dried bacillus coagulans fermentation product, lipase (from Aspergillus niger), cellulase (from Trichoderma reesei), lactase (from Aspergillus oryzae), Hemicellulase (from Trichoderma reesei), bromelain (from Ananas comusus), papain (from carcica papya), propionic acid (a preservative), mixed tocopherols (a preservative), aloe vera gel concentrate, sodium alginate, calcium sulfate.

I'm glad it's helping her, but in the meantime I'd be looking for something that doesn't contain all that stuff, especially the grains and soy and the sodium alginate. I don't like to think of what all those carbs, soy, and the sodium alginate are doing in the long term.

I 100% agree with you, I would much rather get her back an a digestive probiotic, but am having a very hard time finding anything similar to what she was on before. I found 1 other pet probiotic but the ingredients and serving size is all so general, it seemed to shady for me to trust......

I use Proviable DC for Mazy, because she can't seem to tolerate the human brand Natural Factors.
