Hi guys. So today I went to my local pet food pantry and I notice that the can food was exired in April. I was wondering is it safe to give them expire wet food?
I wouldn't feed it to mine. I have taken back cans that were past the date. Is it a 'best by' date, a 'sell by' date, or a 'use by' date? Of course I am more paranoid, since I had salmonella two years ago. I never want to go through that again or see any of the ladies go through that.
If they have been kept in a controlled environment, like heating and A/C, they should be okay. Open one of them, smell it and if you can stand to, taste just a little bit (like touch the surface and touch the finger to your tongue) and if everything seem okay, it should be safe. After all, feral cats eat out of garbage cans.
Like I said, I am super paranoid. I almost died from the Salmonella and C. diff. I am not sure where I got it, but I have my suspicions. The CDC made me tell everything I had eaten in the 5 days before I started having symptoms.
