My cat Zara is 4, last year her lip got really swollen & whitish, we went to the pet dermatologist who declared her to have allergies, to what, we have no idea. We changed her bowls, changed her food and changed our laundry detergent. After a steroid shot it went away for a few months then came back. In trying to solve the allergy mystery we realized that we had slowly started merging in her favorite treats again, Friskies Party Mix. Last week we went out of town for the day so we left treats hidden around the house. A few days later, she is again swollen. Went through the ingredients on the treats and I "think" it is possibly the Brewers Rice that she is allergic to. I have now been to three different speciality pet stores to find treats that do not have the brewers rice in them. We have tried 4 different brands and she refuses all of them. Any suggestions besides no treats ever again?

Welcome to TCS. Try using freeze-dried pure meat treats. I am not sure of the brands, but I am sure someone will give you some brands. You may have to order them online.

Brewer's yeast is a common allergen for cats. The freeze-dried meats and organs are the healthiest treats you can find. Brands include Whole Life, Pure Bites, and a couple others. Most cats seem to love the freeze-dried chicken. Mine loves the freeze-dried beef and freeze-dried chicken liver. They make great toppers as well to encourage healthier eating.

Brewer's rice could be the culprit, it's not at all uncommon for it to cause an allergic reaction in cats.

My cats love the freeze dried meat treats. In most pet stores, either PureBites or Whole Life is available. In the dog section, you may find a bigger selection - but just break them up into smaller sizes for cats. They're just freeze dried meat or liver! My cats also love freeze dried liver.

I've only found Etta Says online, I buy it at amazon if you live somewhere they ship.
