Hi everyone!  Just found this site this week (was searching "kidney failure"...but no worries, cat is fine).  Excited to have a great resource and meet new people.

A little more about me...I am about to start my ninth year teaching 7th grade U.S. History.  I love to cook meals with fresh ingredients  I met my husband when I was 15, started dating at 18, and married at 23.  We both just turned 30! No kids, just cats  :)

More about the cats..With the exception of Squeeze, all have been adopted through foster groups at the age of 6 months and up.  We are suckers for the older ones.  A little spotlight on each, in order of adoption...

Chooch -  our second adoption as a couple.  Our first was an orange cat named Makena.  She unfortunately passed at an early age from kidney failure. Chooch loves to cuddle on our lap and will sometimes tolerate cuddling with the others if they catch her in the right mood.

Kunu  -  the first to say hello to us or visitors. We adopted him at age 1. According to the foster care group that found him, he was a stray that had gotten hit by a truck.  Despite his street life, he is so gentle and friendly.  With the introduction of three new cats over the years, he has never hissed at them once.

Squeeze - was not planned. We were at the vet with Chooch and Squeeze was at the receptionist desk.  The previous owner could not take care of her, so we took her home with us.  She loves to rub her backside against everything!

Orange -  saw her at a foster event at Borders. She was so sweet, but we thought "4 cats, that is crazy!"   Months pass by and we see her again at the same event. I asked to hold her and it was over!  She loves to sit on my lap when I am at the computer.

Padre -  no plans on another cat (again..."5 cats=crazy!!"), but once we started interacting with him we wanted to share our home with him. We had a recent scare with him in January.  We had to rush him to an emergency vet for a urinary blockage (struvite crystal). After online research + vet information, stress (spent some time out of town) + dry food is what we think was the cause.  We have since incorporated wet food daily (Natural Balance) into their diets and he has not had a relapse yet.

Here they are

(top to bottom:  Chooch, Kunu, Squeeze, Orange, Padre)

Btw...All Fur Love Animal Society is the organization that we adopted Orange and Padre through.  They do a background check and home visit before relinquishing the cat(s) over to you.  If you live in Vegas, I highly recommend checking them out:
