I'm sure this has been discussed before, but why is it few canned few canned foods contain pork as the main meat ingredient? Sammy has been on Natures Variety Instinct for a month now and loves all the favors but he REALLY loves the pork. I've read a few threads on here regarding concerns about feeding fur babies pork, but it seems like that was along the raw side of things. Is the fat content still higher in canned pork food and would you have any qualms about feeding it regularly (the canned version)? He inhales it, maybe even faster than the rabbit, which is his second favorite. Piggy. :D

I notice that the brands that do contain pork are the more expensive brands, Weruva, Evangers, etc and are mainly dog food. Perhaps it has to do with the protein/fat ratio. I don't really know and couldn't find much on the net

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
:lol3: I remember having this conversation before.

I'm pretty sure the reason is that the bulk of commercial cat foods are made from the garbage of the human food chain production: and the "garbage" of pork production is already used in human foods. It all gets rendered and used in stuff like hot dogs, salami, etc. It adds flavor.

I feed raw, and my cats LOVE pork.

Yup, we humans love our pork by-products!

I would have no qualms about feeding canned or raw pork regularly in rotation with other meats.
