I have a cat she's really 1 of my sons cats I'm
Not sure how old she is she was a stray that we took in prolly a little over a year ago she has had 2 liters of kittens and with both she has had problems. The first liter she had 2 babies and they didn't make it guess they were to big for her to push out the next liter she had 5 And 3 survived the babies are about 7 weeks old now and I wanted to get her fixed so she don't have anymore problems or anymore babies I was wonder if she was to old to get spayed now or if I had to wait till the kittens where completely weened

She is surely not too old.  Is she fertile enough to get new litters, she is surely young enough to be spayed.

Verry good you are planning on it!

As you say, it is good kittens are weaned, so the usual recommendation is to wait till they are 8+ weeks.

But if you suspect she may get pregnant now while she still has them (fully possible) - say she is allowed to go outside, and you dont want to spay when she is fully pregnant,

you can spay her now too.  She can prob nurse them some already 24 hours after the surgery...

I mean, it happens there are emergency spaying, like with a cesarean.  They are "cut half off", but almost always they can nurse their children almost as soon they are back home.

It is nothing we do recommend, but if you must so you must, and it CAN be done.

Good luck!

If having kittens didn't kill her, she's definitely not too old to be spayed! I do find that older cats are in more pain from the surgery and should have extra pain meds, so talk to the vet about that. But even without extra pain meds, spaying is a lot less painful than being pregnant and giving birth, especially with complicated pregnancies like she has.

The kittens are old enough now for her to be spayed. but some vets like to wait a bit longer (my vet says when the babies are 9 weeks old). Just call your vet and ask, and make the appointment for whatever time he/she suggests.

Thanks for the advice. She isn't really at risk for getting preggers again she's a very good mom and don't like to b away from her babies yet. In fact when they r off playing she is freaking out running around the house trying to find them. I don't let them go out cuz we live in town on a busy road and have already lost 1 stray we took in cuz of a car. I was gonna take her to the ASPCA to have her fixed. I would like to wait till the kittens r a bit older and maybe get them all done at 1 time

How has she been getting pregnant if she doesn't go out? :tongue2: If you have a male, do have him neutered very quickly, although sperm is retained in the tubes for awhile after neutering so even doing it now may not prevent anything.

Call the ASPCA and ask about what age they prefer to spay/neuter kittens. Some will do it as early as 8 weeks, as long as they weigh at least 2 pounds. You might be able to get it all done and over with by next week!

Well this time when she got prego my sons left their window unlocked and some neighborhood kids opened it while we were gone and she got out I do have a male
Cat but he's not a normal Tom cat when she went in heat he wasn't even interested in her our dog was trying harder than he was. Long story about him. She doesn't even try to get out anymore I'm sure that will start again soon since the kittens r getting bigger. I did use to let her out but when I seen how much trouble she had with the first liter and our other cat getting ran over we quit.

You'd better take the male in to be neutered with the rest of them. . .never know when his hormones will kick in and he'll start spraying! And if he does that you'll never get the smell out .

So, yeah, just call the SPCA and ask for the details. Hopefully everybody can be done soon!
