Hi,

I am the proud owner friend of three cats, all of them special and funny and sweet in different ways.

Sophie is my special girl, I adopted her in August 2012. She is 1 year and 2 months old.

She is kind and sweet, affectionate and very well behaved. She is the least cat-like of my cats, maybe because she was an only cat until this May she sort of believed she was a human.

Harley and Amelie are two strays I took from the street.

Harley was pretty sick when we got him, but now, at seven months old, he is as big as Sophie.

He was actually sleeping here, head in the water bowl.

Harley purrs all the time and is a real sport about having different ointments put in his eyes 6 times a day (he is undergoing treatment for a herpes virus that damaged his eyes). He is a bit weird - he actually pretty much likes everything: water, food, playing, not playing, being petted, being handled, going to the vet, food again, other animals, other humans, the vacuum cleaner and, yes, food.

Amelie is his sister. She has big trust issues. First couple of weeks she greeted us with a hiss. She is not aggressive, never once did she bite or scratch, but she would have liked the humans to scoop the litterboxes and leave some food out and that's it - no talking to her and definitely no touching her.

This photo is taken less than 48 hours after her spaying surgery. She is perfectly fine.

A few weeks later, she allows me to pet her and the little monster even knows how to purr. She would much rather spend time with Harley and Sophie, but she is learning, day by day, that having a home is pretty nice.

Hi IrinaSaK and welcome!

What wonderful shots of your kitties... each one really 'says' something about them.

Sophie has such fabulous markings!

It will be interesting to see how Amelie goes... hopefully that trust will grow.

Thank you very much.

It is amazing how different they are - Sophie is shy and sweet, Harley is bold and jolly and Amelie, well... she's the catest of them all - cautious and definitely the most agile of the bunch.

I do not have experience in cat socialization, but I like the way things are going with Amelie. At first, I fed her and stayed with her while she ate, getting as close as she would let me without making her move away from her food. I did not play with her as much as I would have wanted (Harley bites the toys and growls at everyone trying to take them - from what I wrote it seems aggressive, but really he is not and he never bites or scratches - if I want the toy he lets me have it anytime. He just doesn't want the other cats to have it. And I did not want to separate them by playing in a different room just with her because she got really scared when he was not around). I guess what really worked for Amelie was leaving her alone. I did not try to force pet her or handle her. I caught her half asleep a few times, I peted her then and she purred. Now she sometimes comes near me, with her back at me and tail all high and I know she wants me to scratch her back. It does not happen often, but it is enough that she comes from time to time. However, she only tolerates me and my boyfriend. Whenever someone else enters the house, she disappears - she stays under the bed for hours if someone else is in the house. Anyway, we are slowly working on improving our relationship :).
