This is my public service announcement for the day. :lol3:

If you are going to be out in the heat, please remember to stay hydrated, even if you feel perfectly fine. Water is your friend. My husband learned this the hard way yesterday. A slight cold, a long walk, and a few alcoholic drinks led to him passing out. An extremely low blood pressure led to an ambulance ride to the hospital. Three liters of fluid later by IV and he was sent home. He felt perfectly fine up until the seconds before he passed out. Don't let this happen to you. ;)

Oh boy!  My husband is fair skinned and exposed to the heat at work.  He has missed work a few days to recover from the previous days heat!  He's learned to balance the water and Gatorade intake better.  I think one day last week he told me he drank 2 GALLONS one day.  I'm not sure how much was Gatorade or if there was Gatorade in addition to the water.  We had heat indexes over 100 every day.  It was miserable!

I forget to drink. I'm not a big drinker anyway (of any sort of beverage) and it drives my husband nuts sometimes.  But I can be pretty sensitive to heat; like going to these summer festivals when it's 90million degrees outside (why do they have them at the hottest time of the year anyway!?! Why!?!?).  It's nearly caught me a few times. When I was a kid I'd break out in hives from it!

I've done pretty good recently though.  I've been packing a small cooler with waters and ice for the kids and I even if we are just running errands.  What if we ever got stuck somewhere for a while ya know?

I'm glad your hubby is ok!

OH no... Karen. How scary for Aaron. I had heat stroke three summers ago and the horse barn. It was almost 100 degrees with high humidity. I was working way to hard riding horses and working in the barn and forgot to drink water. THEN, some of the girls brought in champagne. It was our usual champagne Thursday lunch day. Well, after one glass, I passed out cold. Woke up to the EMT's in my face. They wanted to take me to the hospital to receive IV fluids. I thought it was not necessary at the time but when I tried to stand up at the barn, I just about passed out again. I always drink TONS of water from that day forward when it was hot and I was working in the heat.

Good idea to remind people!!! :hugs:

It is more noticeable in the heat, but make sure to drink plenty of water - not coffee, sodas, tea or beer - every day. I usually drink at least 2 quarts a day, in addition to my mug of coffee in the morning.

That must have been scary for you and Aaron. It's a good reminder with all this heat!
It really was. We were lucky in that when he passed out, there was a retired firefighter nearby that knew exactly what to do.

Just like you, Lauren, he has been drinking fluids now non-stop and I have been trying to also.

OMG, Karen! You must have been worried sick about him! I'm so glad he's OK.

Drinking enough water is a definite problem for me....I tend to forget to drink water when I'm outside and it's not until Rick brings me out an insulated mug of ice and beverage that I remember.

It was 8 degrees Celsius this morning. High of low 20's this week.  No heat wave here!
You're lucky! It's supposed to be 36°C/96°F here on the weekend, which will be nasty since the vast majority of people/places don't have air conditioning. It's only been slightly cooler the past couple of weeks and extremely muggy the past few days.
