I have posted the cpl of paragraphs below to acquaint everyone to my situation. Today, i am very angry and very sad because i just found one of my cats dead. I was looking for him for 2 nights and i just found him poisoned in the compound of the complex i live in in Shanghai. I am so disgusted living around such heartless and spiritually unevolved people but if i leave, who is going to feed them.

I’ve been feeding stray cats every day without fail for 10 years. For the past 4 years, I have been feeding around 80 to 100 cats around my neighborhood in Shanghai. Sometimes, I am very saddened, when these cats are poisoned or caught by the cat catchers and sold in container loads to wholesalers for USD 7/cat in Canton, where it is considered a delicacy. Unfortunately, there are no laws in China protecting animals.

Now, even though my business is not doing very well, I am still feeding these cats and this is causing a lot of problems with my wife who thinks I am not in a position to feed them any longer. Of course, I will cut down on my meals if I have to, as I cannot see any of these poor cats (that I am already too attached to) go hungry. I was, therefore, wondering if someone could direct me to websites/people who would assist me with cat food. Later, if finances permit God willing, i would like to take these cats off the streets, neuter them and provide them with food & shelter & protection.

Thanks,

Michael

I also forgot to add that this cat whose name was Tato, was only a year old and he was always taking  care of all the orphan kittens. Such a loving cat. Would spend hours with me in my apartment on the 10th floor taking care of kittens i often bring in for adoption. May God embrace this poor darling in his eternal Love!

You have a heart of gold in trying to continue to feed and care for these poor homeless cats. And the fact that you would rather feed them than yourself shows your dedication and devotion to these cats. God bless you. I am so very sorry about :rbheart: Tato. I shudder to think about some of those cats being trapped for food. My heart is heavy. :sniffle: I am trying to find some resources for you to contact for assistance in your care of these cats. My gratitude to you for trying. :hugs: :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Dear Feralvr,

Thank you so much for expressing your kindness. Sometimes i just want to cry as, in China, my hands are tied. I sometimes really want to get up and leave but then i think who is going to take care of these poor creatures who desperately need me. I wish i could find someone in the States, who would assist me in providing these poor cars a good shelter and  food and medical assistance. My resources are very limited presently but i am also working very hard to make some $$$ so that i can keep helping them. My wife wants to divorce me but that's least of my worries.

God bless you,

Michael

ps. many many years ago, i found God (and not in a conventional sense)! He is Love! And that changed my life completely. I live to serve others and i want to be very useful to those who have been dealt a very bad card in this incarnation!

Hi Micheal,

I am heartbreaking for Tato and those stray cats in China. As an Chinese, I can certainly relate to what you are saying. I adopted my first cat in U.S last year and started devoting myself to help homeless animals whenever I can. I have noticed lately that there are a few cat rescue organization in China. ' Lucky domestic cat (幸运土猫)’ is one of them. You can find them on WEIBO. I also know some folks on Chinese cat forum who spend lots of time rescuing stray cats and helping them find new homes.

I really think you should continue to help those cats, and if possible, connect with other cat people in Shanghai. Please do not hesitate to let me know if you need additional information.

Such a generous and kind-spirited man to love and care for the homeless cats. I know of the limited resources in China, etc., but not first-hand. It does break my heart to pieces. I think of what you must see each day - the suffering and hunger of these cats. I wish there were more I could do to help this seemingly hopeless situation. All you can do, is what you are doing which is your best. I do know that you must feel it is not enough, BUT it IS something. It would be impossible for us to save them all and if you keep on with that pace - you may need saving too. :sniffle: :hugs: :vibes::vibes::vibes:

Deae Di,

Thank you very much for expressing your kindness towards Tato, in particular and cats in general in China. I don't understand why such a great nation like China is so deficient in spiritual evolution and growth. If people were more spiritually evolved, they wont shudder doing such acts as their conscience would never allow it.

Thanks for your advice. We have already spoken to quite a few animal rescue organizations here already and they all seem to need help themselves. I will check with Lucky Domestic Cat and see what they can offer in terms of assistance.. If you can find anyone who can help me on Weibo, i would truly appreciate it...

Thanks and warm regards,

Michael

It does break my heart that people can be so empty in their hearts and turn a blind eye to these stray cats. It happens all over, not just in China. I was talking with my sister this morning about the dilemma and suffering of cats in this world. We both wish there was more we could do to help them. :bawling:

All my best to these poor kitties and I pray for them and for you helping them, somehow. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

If possible you need help to get those cats sterilized!  At least get the females spayed. The problem will continue on as long as they're able to breed. Why allow innocent kittens to be brought into such a cold cruel world where they're poisoned and seen as food animals?  I saw the pictures of how cats, a companion animal, are kept and then slaughtered in China.  No humane laws protect them.  It's unbelievable!

ShanghaiCatMan-

I'm so sorry to read about your situation and I do hope some of the sites others recommended can provide some sort of help for you in furthering your mission.

This may be low on the list in terms of importance, but have you ever tried to speak to the people that live near the area that the feral colony is? I was just wondering if you even wrote out a little letter and affixed it to all the doors if it might help. In it, you could explain what you are trying to do. Also, you could see if any of them want to help try and protect this colony. Perhaps if there were more people invested it would not only help on the food budget but allow for some spaying and neutering to happen (though I don't know how common that is in China and realize it may be very expensive).

I guess I was just thinking if you could try to connect the people with the cats in the neighborhood they would be less likely to poison them. You can also let them know who you are and if they are having a problem with an animal in particular to let you know and that you will try to help fix it as opposed to trying to solve it themselves.

All this said I have very little knowledge of Chinese culture and this idea may be offensive. I defer to your expertise in living there to decide what is best for your community.

Best of luck in caring for them. You do have a heart of gold and, even if they can't say it, these cats are very appreciative of all you do for them!

I think he said he would if he could afford. Honestly, this situation is way too big for just one person to handle out there. They really need a compassionate vet to come out and trap the very sick kitties and put them peacefully out of their misery. I am sorry to say, but sometimes in these desperate situations such as in China, that is the kindest thing to do for them. It seems a hopeless situation and the cats will continue to breed sick babies and become more sick themselves. :bawling:

It is an impossible situation and so many turn a blind eye and do not care one bit about these cats as if they are garbage. :shame:
