So my two guys are one year and a few months. They eat natures variety instinctt dry twice daily and best feline friends or wellness canned..the thing is they are suppost to eat 2/3 dry each a day.. which I'm splitting in two..plus about 1/4 of 5ounch can each. Untill recently I was free feedinf them and they have always ate about the same amount for months. I changed them to meals and I am going through the same amount but it turns out they only eat about 1/3 cup each of the dry...and with wet I put it out and a 5 ounch can will last three days and soemtimes is tossed out. I refridgerate inbettween feeding. They don't like cat treats or people food or meat or any other cat foods... is this heathy? I mean they look fine.
On a side note I don't like dry but I can't afford the 4 bucks a day pure canned would cost. Any cheaper ideas?

If you are going off the manufacturer's suggested feeding guidelines, they are usually too high for neutered indoor cats (not sure what yours are). Also, your cats are going from kittens to adults so they will naturally eat less as they stop growing. A better guideline to go by is calories and look/feel. Neutered indoor adult cats need about 20 calories per pound of ideal weight daily (e.g. A 10 lb cat needs about 200 calories daily. As long as they are a good weight and are not gaining or losing weight, then it's a good amount.

Some cheaper but ok options to rotate with the canned is Friskies pates and Fancy Feast classic line pates. Depending on where you are located and what's available to you, you may be able to find the larger 12 oz cans of EVO and Hound & Gatos which would make feeding 2 cats cheaper.

I was going off manufacturer, for adult regular activity. My guys are indoor only and fixed, 8lb and 12lb last I checked.. the vet will tell me in two weeks their weight again but they have stayed the same for months now. They look fine and are active happy and healthy (at least they seam that way lol). So that's good.

My guys are grain free and get bad bad diarrhea if I give them grains- are the friskies grain free, the ones I saw weren't I think. I have given them fancy feast before that had no grain and they ate some of it. we tried whiskas tray once but there was a massive bone in it and when I called to complain they blew me off so I wont be doing that brand again.. I really like to feed the better brands but I have tried putting some cheaper (no grain!) in there once in a while because of money and all. I can afford dry high quality brands but wet is so expensive. Evo I find expensive.. I ordered it from petfooddirect before and my guys wont eat it. They don't like anything with peas or carrots, whole veg, or meat that I cant mush to pulp with a fork for them.. I also mix into a soup any wet I give them.. they like me to mush it up real good. They did like prowl (would leave the chunks) but last I checked they wouldn't touch it anymore.

My walmart used to have something called...uhm.. darn I cant remember but it was little black pouches of shredded chicken in gel- I read that the gel stuff is no good for them but it said complete and it was just chicken and gel so until I found out the gel thing I was giving them that once in a while too. they liked it.
