I brought my new kitten home today and she has been the most playful thing ever. She has even used the litter box already.

However, she hasn't eaten or drank any water yet, is this concerning? (She has been here for about 4 hours)

I noticed she has been coughing and gagging a little bit for a couple mins, and then she wont do again for like an hour. Is this just normal hairball behavior? Right after she goes back to purring though.

I am taking her to a vet ASAP, but I would just like to hear your thoughts.

Thanks so much everyone!

Aw, congrats on bringing her home!!! :hugs: I know you've been looking forward to this!

I wouldn't be overly worried about her not eating or drinking water yet. Do you know what she was fed before?

How old is she?

What food are you going to be feeding her?

Many cats, in a new home, won't eat for a day, sometimes even a little more - though often they'll come out at night to eat. But that's usually when they're scared of being in new surroundings. Your little one doesn't sound like she fits that bill. :lol3:

It may be she's too excited about all the new stuff to notice she's hungry. I don't know what the coughing and gagging is... young kittens usually don't have hairballs. She doesn't seem congested, does she? Because that can be a reason cats don't eat - they don't smell the food.

She did end up drinking for about four minutes!!!

I am feeding her what the foster care people said they were feeding her.

She us 14 weeks.

She has both peed and pooped however.

She doesn't seem to be congested and she has played sooooo much, which I have heard increases appetite also.

Hey there.
Here is an update.

She did drink another round of a lot of water, and she is still using the litter box fine.

She slept with me on my bed for about an hour and 45 minutes. When she got up I was able to hand feed her around 10 pieces of kibble. After that she refused it. She did eat a friskies treat earlier also.

I know i shouldnt be super alarmed, but it does scare me.

Now that i think about, its possible. I have noticed her eyes are watery and she has been sneezing too, along with a heaving type of cough. I want her to see a vet Asap, but they are not open sundays, do you think these are things that need to be addressed right away?
