My husband and I have two female kittens, they are about 3 1/2 months old.... When should we get them spayed? I'm so nervous for them... It seems like they have to go through a pretty major surgery...

You can get a cat fixed as early as 8 weeks old. Cats start to spray at six months old. So I would say if you have the money to get them fixed do it asap.

Okay, I was just curious... We'll call our local humane society and get it taken care of!

They'd be perfectly fine to be fixed right now, actually. They're plenty old enough. 8 weeks is generally the minimum.

Don't worry about it too much. It's a very routine surgery and complications are rare. Most kittens bounce back really fast -- faster than older cats, actually.

You definitely want to do it before 6 months. Cats, especially females, can go through puberty that early. Neutering actually reduces certain health risks, such as breast cancer, and it works best if you do it before they go through their first heat.

Okay! I'll make sure to get it done within the next month :) My neighbor said when her Maine Coon went in heat for the first time it was terrible...She was meowing and spraying her scent everywhere... I definitely don't want them to start spraying and I want to get sleep (She said her's meowed all day and night looking for a male.) I was pretty concerned about how they heal and everything...
