We've had a problem with roaches at work for several months now; probably a year.  They were brought in by a patient in one of the clinics along with bed bugs.  I think the bed bugs  have been resolved, but we are still having an issue with roaches.  Today I was in clinic and was putting a patient in a wheelchair into an exam room. I moved a couple of chairs and saw a roach crawling on the floor. It was all I could do not not shriek!  LOL

Anyway, I managed to keep my cool.  I did my patient interview, then sent in the doctor and got the patient out of there asap.  However, as soon as I left the room to get the doctor to go in, I quickly made a call about the roach and sent an email to my manager.

She responded with "Did you put it into a bottle?"

To which I replied

"Ewwww!  No way!!!! LOL"

I know that as a nurse there are a lot of "other duties" that falls into my job description, such as mopping up pee, cleaning up vomit etc.  But bug catching is not one of them!!!  LMAO

Here's my question...............What good does it do to put it in a bottle? Do they need proof you actually saw one? I mean really......... They really come out at night, they don't like light, or activity, so if you see one, there are many many more in the walls and other dark, damp low activity areas.

That could be a huge problem if they don't start treating, if a patient sees this could be a serious lawsuit. Someone needs to listen to you

Apparently the idea behind catching it is so it can be sent away and properly ID'd as a roach. Once it is ID'd they will set out traps.  From there I don't know what they do.  I don't know if they put roach paste out or not. I would hope that they do.  But it looks stupid to have these black boxes that look like 8 track tapes sitting on the floor in corners of rooms, and double sticky tape along the backs of the counter tops in the computer rooms where we sit in clinic.

That sounds so ridiculous...... Sorry but unless you can can catch one of these so called roaches ( Really? Who doesn't know what a roach looks like!)  otherwise we do not care that a possible infestation may be happening in what is suppose to be a sterile atmosphere. If at all possible I would seek employment elsewhere, the risk of bringing roaches to your home from work, and you mentioned bedbugs far outweighs the pay.....

Yep, that's what I thought!  I seriously think they need to go in there on the weekend and fumigate the whole building.
I would not want to work there if bedbugs are an issue. Roaches are bad enough but you can get rid of them. Bedbugs, that one is a toughie.

I know. I lived through it last year from February through April! What a nightmare. I got them from a guy who lived next to me in my other apartment. When I moved I left behind a 2 year old $2,000 dollar bed, and I threw a lot of stuff out, and spent weeks steam cleaning every inch of the rest of my furniture, and running everything fabric through a hot dryer.

The bed bug issue at work is taken care of.  They were only in one clinic exam room where that patient was that brought them in.  So they did a heat treatment on that room and the one beside it.
