Hi there,

I could really do with some advice.

We are currently planning on bringing home a new kitten to join our female 7 month old norwegian forest cross kitten. I have been told by some people that I shouldnt introduce another female kitten, however we have fallen in love with a female siemese cross kitten. In your own experiences have you found it to be ok bringing another female kitten into the family if they are introduced properly or would it be better to bring home a male instead?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks :)

I have an 11 year old female cat that's only been around males when she was younger and they fought all the time but she's been on her own for 8 years without other cats until I recently brought home a female kitten and my cat has never been more playful and happy. so if you introduce them slowly so they get used to eachother, you shouldn't have too much of a problem.

I agree with  jmjl19.

One question, are they both spayed?  The touchy is usually if they arent, as it is usually easier with spayed.   And if you arent a breeder I suppose you spay them?

Good luck to both of you, Marlos and jmjl19

Both welcome to our Forums!

I've got two females that introduced to each other and at first things didn't go so well but after a couple of days of having them in the same room for a few hours they slowly got used to the idea. Just dont try to rush the process as it can take a few weeks before they decide to co-exsist.

But the best of luck to you and I hope they get along.

Ahh this does sound good as I was so worried that I now wouldnt be able to bring the kitten that we found home. Our 7 month old kitten is spayed and we will get our new kitten spayed as well when she is old enough. We wont be bringing her home for a couple of weeks yet until she is at least 9 weeks old. Have you got any tips on introducing them over the first few weeks?

Awe bless well when you get the new kitten keep the separated for the first day so the kitten can get used to her new home but make sure to pay attention to your other cat otherwise they'll get jealous and that could cause problems, but slowly bring your cat to the same room as the kitten for maybe an hour the first day so they can check each other out, there will be some hissing but that's just normal and increase the time they spend together over the week until you feel comfortable enough to have them both together all day.
It took my cats a couple of days to get used to the idea of having a friend around but all cats are different and can take a little longer to get used to the idea. I hope everything works outs for you.

yep, they are both spayed. my roommate has 2 female spayed cats as well but neither of my cats like them for some reason so I guess it just depends on the cats on if they'll  like each other or not. guess they're just like people, can't force them to like each other lol
