Hello all, I'm new here. I live on a small farm with my hubby and we do a lot of self treatments on all of our animals, saves us money and less drama for the animals.

The issue at hand this time around is I'm not sure if one {or two} of our kittens have ringworm or not. I've had it in the past, and seen it on horses but I've never delt with it on cats.

Here is a pic

At first I thought it was a snake bite. This was 3 days after I saw it. There was a little puss that first day then they scabbed over before I could put anything on it. She is healed up now and the hair is growing back, but her brother now has a bald spot on his neck. And as I was looking him over I noted tiny clumps of hair coming off of his back, not large enough to see skin under it just tiny clumps like a horse with rain rot which is also a fungus...if he was anything but a cat I'd wash him with head & shoulders but I don't think he would take kindly to a bath at all.

I think it would be kinda strange if both kittens got bit in the same spot nearly two weeks apart.

Any thoughts, tips? Could it be something else all together?

Our 3 grown cats look healthy, same as our other younger litter of kittens. They get fed all the purina kitten chow they want.

I've got another question, has anyone used Diatomaceous Earth and/or ground pumpkin seeds to treat kitten for roundworms? I need to pick up some wormer for these guys and I'd like to go with something natural if I can.

Thanks

that looks painful.. poor kitty! Have you taken her to the vet yet? I'd take both her and her brother in to find out exactly what it is. It could be allergies to bug bites, ringworms or something else.

Not sure about the ringworm question...that picture sure doesn't look like ringworm to me
You say they scabbed over before you could treat them...sure hope there is nothing still in there that is going to abscess
It does seem strange that only the kittens have this, IF it's ringworm.  I'm thinking it may be something else, but have no idea what.  May be some sort of bug bits?

As far as using the Diatomaceous Earth for worms, you bet!  The dosage for kittens is .5 to 1 teas once or twice a day mixed into their food.  (obviously you know Food Grade DE only)  Gosh, I'm such an idiot
...someone else had tiny kittens with worms and I completely forgot about using this as a dewormer, and they were too young for anything else.

that doesn't look typical of ringworm. but then again... What IS typical ? I have had a vet tell me that ringworm can take quite a variety of appearances.
Sure looks very inflamed. I have seen a cat look like that from flea allergy.
Could also be from mites.
or a food allergy?

It's just a patch of short new hair on her now. The reason I wondered if it was ringworm was because of the little tuffs coming off of her brothers body. And I did a search for pics of cats with ringworm and I saw 1 pic where a cat had it on the neck kinda like that, and it got me guessing. But I think Buckwheat {her buba} has flea allergies. The spot on his neck looks a little different, and he licks it a lot. Makes me think she got bit by something and he did it to him self. Their mama will also groom her self to the point of hair loss at times.

I posted on another forum I'm on and someone said they have had a older cat {normally a Tom} bite the kittens and it looked like that.

They have been on the same feed for months now, so I doubt it's that. I'll try to get new pics of both kittens.

Yep food grade DE. I love it when I can go with a more natural product.
