I desperately need help. I have two kittens that are four weeks old today. One is female and one male. The female seems to be doing quite well, playing, fussing, etc. I noticed today that the boy, who does most of the sleeping, had a poop that had blood and mucus in it. I have tried to do a lot of research on the web about it, but I don't really find anything that fits my situation. Bobby, the boy kitten, does walk around an play, but not at the same rate as his sister. He is noticeably smaller than her, but has seemed to gain weight and abilities at a steady rate. The mother is still with the kittens, though today she has stayed away from them quite a bit, almost as it she is trying to ween them off.

I am really worried that Bobby may not make it. The mom is under a year of age and we didn't know she was pregnant until she had the kittens. There were four, but the first was found dead in the carport and the last died three days after birth. I've kept them in our screened in porch so the mom could be with them, but not move them outside where I can't find them. Mom eats well, have been supplementing two cans of wet cat food a day in addition to the dry food I keep out for her all day.

I'm probably hypersensitive as I just lost one of our babies today. She was about a two month old kitten named Cantaloupe. She got caught in the door closing and was fatally injured. I still haven't stopped crying. Just need some insight. I can't bear to lose another.

Thank you all in advance.

Amy

Bobby could have worms or something worse your best bet would be a vet visit asap. It sounds like the mother is attempting to begin the weaning process.

I agree the best bet is to visit a vet. Begin by phoning if you wish.

The mom may have got in heat, that is why she loses her interest.  So dont let her out.

Also possible being young she isnt a terribly good mother, and begins to wean them. But coming into heat is far more common.

Im deep sorry for your loss of little Cantaloupe. What a tragical accident...

Good luck!
