I have a healthy, happy, very playful 5 month old kitten that I just adopted 2 months ago. I have noticed something strange with his vision or perception. When he is facing me and I throw a toy over his head and behind him, he does not seem to understand what I just did and will continue to look for the toy in front of him. My other cat would whip around and chase it when she was a kitten. It is also the same thing with his food bowl. When he is facing me and I reach over him to put his food down (while he is attacking me trying to get to it), he does not realize that I have just put it down and will continue to meow loudly at me and climb my leg. I have to turn him around to show him that the food is there. He is a Siamese mix with blue eyes if that makes a difference.

I don't really know. Maybe the little guy is so focused on the excitement of waiting for his toy or food that he just kind of forgets. What about when he plays on his own, like with a ball, does he chase it around? Some cats are just mentally sharper than others which is totally fine. If I were you I would go slower. Try rolling the ball in front of him rather than tossing it over his head. When you give him his food, show it to him while he is attacking you and slowly put it down. Don't compare him to your other kitten, just adapt things to his pace and interests. He might learn over time. If there are no other issues with his motor skills, balance, and he is not bumping into things I wouldn't worry too much. Bring it up with your vet next time you go in and see what they say.

I noticed you said your kitten was part siamese. Mine is too, Lily has some siamese, she is white, with VERY thick hair, grey ears and tail, and blue eyes. Her eyes tend to cross sometimes, quite a bit when she focuses on something. that is a siamese trait, and I read that it was bred out of full siamese, but you said yours is a mix too. So maybe he is having a hard time seeing when his eyes cross? I have to refocus Lily sometimes and show her where her toy went, bc she loses track of it. its cute how their eyes cross though, Lily is 11 months. Hope this helps!

If her eyes cross which I have seen in not just pure bred siamese cats, but in many siamese mix cats, she will have a smaller vision range than cats who's eyes don't cross.

Thanks for responding. I have noticed that his eyes do seem to cross a little, especially when he is looking up and focusing on something above him. His "forward" vision is fine. He runs and chases toys in front of him.
