My co-worker has had Charlie, an 11-year old tiger now since he was pretty much a kitten. Charlie has stomach cancer and since Bob has moved out on his own (he was divorced and had moved back in with his mom when his father passed away. His mother has remarried now and so he's recently bought a house and he and Charlie live alone now), he felt that Charlie needed a buddy.
He spent the morning at a local shelter and was giving me updates on the various cats he found there. Then he called.....Bob and Charlie now have two new buddies: a Black Boy (who needs to be neutered) and a gorgeous male, Pretty Boy, who is really too pretty to be a male and is both neutered and declawed. Bob's not sure what their names are going to be; they haven't told him yet. I forget what their shelter names were. We're calling them Black Boy and Pretty Boy until they tell him what their names are.
Black Boy is about one year old and he's a real sweetie. Bob said that he was all over him right from the beginning, trying desperately to talk him into taking him home with him. Pretty Boy is just gorgeous; he's around 3 years old with this long foofy tail, gorgeous white bib and huge white, hairy paws. Bob was leaning toward taking only Pretty Boy, but then the shelter woman told him that black cats are so hard to adopt out and he felt so bad for Black Boy. Especially since I've always talked about Hydrox, The Old Coot, our black baby.
He texted me to tell me how conflicted he was and I said the answer was easy. Take them both. That way Charlie would still have two companions when Bob was at work; even if they played with each other, Charlie would still have them there and wouldn't be all alone. And since Charlie has cancer, when he passed Bob wouldn't be back to square one, trying to find a buddy for whichever male he took.
But little did I know that he'd really take them both! He called me and said, "And then there were three!"
So they are both at home in their own rooms for now. Bob has an appt to get Black Boy neutered this coming week...I'm worrying about an unneutered male spraying in his new house. And they both need their rabies shots, although they're up to date on everything else.
Rick and I are going up tonight to visit with the boys. I can't wait to meet them! Two more babies found forever homes!
