Ok everyone... I've been researching Gastric bypass for several years now and I finally took the next step. Tuesday I am going for an orientation at the surgeon's office. This is just where they give you information and have you fill out the paper work to see if your insurance will cover it. Please, please, PLEASE keep all fingers, toes, paws and eyes crossed that my insurance will cover it! It's gotten to the point that it is necessary. I saw an orthopedic surgeon about my back today (I have degenerative arthritis and shrunk 2 inches) and he also thinks this is the best route.

I won't know on Tuesday if the insurance accepts it or not but I will let you know as soon as I know myself! Thanks!!

Hopefully they will if it will also help a pre-existing back problem. I will keep fingers and toes crossed and send positive insurance vibes your way

I sure hope it will!!!! Sending all kinds of positive vibes your way. And I really hope it does help with your back problem too, although it wasn't clear from your post if that was a nice side-effect
. I know how painful arthritis in the back is, and I hope you find relief. !!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck! Hope it covers it! Sending good vibes your way! If I may ask, I have heard of a gastric bypass before, but I don't know what it's used to treat. What does a gastric bypass do?

It basicly shrinks your stomach and is used to treat obesity. Carnie Wilson is one of the 1st celebs to have it done and she lost over 100 pounds. Randy Jackson, judge of American Idol also had it done recently.

Good vibes coming straight to you!!!

A good friends husband recently had this surgery. He has already lost 65 pounds in 6 weeks and is very happy with his decision. It's a lot of work and a great deal to remember but he feels it's totally worth it!

Good luck!

Thanks everyone! Keep em comin'! Yes, it would help greatly with the arthritis in my back. I've also developed sleep apnea since I gained all this weight and that would also be solved. So there is at least a better chance for insurance to cover it because of other health related problems that would resolve or at least improve greatly. I really need this because right now because of my back, I can't walk for more then 10 minutes, stand for too long etc.

What happend was 10 years ago I was a runner and a biker. I had an achilles tendon injury that stretched out 4 years before it actually ruptured and got repaired. In those 4 years I went from totally active to totally inactive. My metabolism came to a screeching halt and I continued to eat like I ate when I was very active. Also developed hypothyroidism during this time. So here I am and nothing works because my body was so darn screwed up! Anyway... that's it in a nutshell!

Well, Peaches is pacing back and forth in front of the monitor. Think she's trying to tell me something??
So I guess I better go and give the princess some attention!
