My family's not so new stray has been beaten up so many times, it's ridiculous. He is a male and has been neutered and though he's more mellow than he was before, he still gets into these scruffles.

This morning he came inside looking fine, but as we took a closer look he has scratches on his neck, stomach, is limping with his front left leg, and his left eye can't open all the way.
He still ate, but he's really tired and really just needs some love. I am taking him to the vet soon, but I don't think that's the issue. The issue is that he gets into these fights in the first place. Obviously, when he's outside I can't really watch him everywhere he goes. Is there anyway I can get him to stop fighting? He's oober territorial.

Please if anyone has any advice on how to decrease the chance of an adopted stray getting into scruffles with other stray cats in the backyard, let me know.

The best thing you can do is to keep him inside. Its a shame that he keeps getting hurt, and as you say you can not supervise him when hes out. So to keep him safe from harm inside is the best way..

Is there anyway to put together an outdoor enclosure that he can be safe in when he wants out? I agree that keeping him in is your best option, it sucks sometimes to get them used to it but it's worth it.

I agree that the only way is to keep him indoors or at the very least, build an outdoor enclosure to keep him safe. There is truly no way to keep him safe from these scuffles other than that. It is what it is, and cat's that go outdoors will be so much more territorial about their yards, etc. regardless of whether they are neutered or not. Territorial is a cat's middle name. ;) :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Hello all.

I haven't been on the site, so I haven't seen these posts but thank you all for your concern! He's all better now
, well not really but that's a whole 'nother story.

I haven't been able to build him an outdoor enclosure, but he's been sleeping in the garage and he likes it a lot in there.
I will update you guys if anything!

Is he neutered? That is the only thing that will help with a cat like him.
