hi! i've owned my cat for about six months now, with no real problems. but suddenly, about a week or two ago, he started deficating outside the litter box. the litter box is clean, and i havent changed its location or the litter in it. i really dont know what to do. if it doesnt stop ill have to find him a new home, which i dont want to do. how do you deal with a situation like this???

Take him to the vet to make sure that you eliminate the possibility that it could be a medical problem. Sometimes when a cat starts pooping outside of the litter box it could be medical.

Another reason may be because of other changes in the house. Have there been any new additions to the house?

Do you simply change the litter, or do you bleach out the box? Plastic boxes absorb smells and changing alone doesn't always get rid of the bad smells. Also, is he neutered yet? At 6 months old, he is growing into adult-hood, and his hormonal changes could alter his behavior. Any sudden behavior change should prompt a visit to the vet.
