I came across this little bird.. looks like a sparrow (with sparrow siblings) but it has a red head and red feathers under its wings. I've never seen a bird like this before..

Is it a hybrid or a species? Anyone know?

best picture I could get

Actually, since moving to our new home and the fact that the sellers fed wild birds, I have continued in the effort which brings much excitement to my indoor kitties. I enjoy feeding them and watching them as well. I have some unusual visitors even woodpeckers!!

I believe the bird above is a "House Finch" I have these darling birds visit my feeders daily. I think they are beautiful!!!!!

It looks like a House Finch to me too.  I found this that might help: http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/birding/backyard-bird-identifier

I get Purple Finches and House finches all the time as well as these guys; but the picture you have does look like more dillute except for the red.  I wonder if it's a juvenile?  I know the juvenile cardinals that come look a little different color wise.  They also look like they go through an "awkward" stage with feathers coming in.

It looks like you have fledglings with the adult. I have fledglings following their parents to my feeders. Parent eats, kid sits and squawks to be fed. One tried landing next to parent on a perch and sent both of them tumbling. :lol3:

Aristotle is my bird watcher. This morning he went wild when a mourning dove landed close to the window.

So bird babies are just like human kids!  Squawking to be fed and taking the gracefulness out of their parents!

My girls love the morning doves too.  They drive me nuts in the mornings because their call can sound an awful lot like a kid crying down the hallway.  But they will come up on our back patio and just relax and the girls love it!  I think it was a morning dove that I had looking in the back window from the back steps once. They aren't always the brightest birds!

:lol3: I have the same thing going on outside right now. There are many fledglings following mom around begging for seeds. There is one that is truly a BIG BABY. He is a grackle but bigger than his mom. He can and does eat the seed on his own but we notice when mom is around he won't eat for himself. The big baby just follows her around, fluttering his wings, cooing. She will get tired of this and take a seed, any seed and quite abruptly shove it into his beak. It is quite funny to watch. I still see the big baby out there but he is on his own as of a few days ago.
