I decided to get the litter box out for our kitten this week and he has yet to use it as a bathroom, but I keep catching him trying to eat the litter. He has had fleas since he was a few days old and we have been giving him baths and trying to keep him free of fleas, but I am afraid he is anemic and that's why he is eating litter. Or is it just that he is curious? He is a healthy little guy, gaining weight and all that. Thanks!!

A lot of kittens taste litter because they're young and curious. That's why you must use non-clumping litter until they are litter box trained and stop eating litter.

An older cat eating litter may be a sign of anemia. In kittens, it's just being young and curious.

Yes, my kittens were the same...kept sniffing, then it gets on their noses, and they lick it off.  One week later, they've more or less figured it out :)  Definitely use non clumping.
