my room mate have a cat she is 7-8 months old
he is going away so he gave me his cat
cause the rent was a bit high for me alone i moved to another room and this is my 1st day in this room
and i took meme with me (the cat) i was tired from moving stuff and irritated from the heat
and my cat kept getting in the way so i left her to move her away so that i can finish my work
when she suddenly scratched me real hard.....so i..i got real angry and i lost it

so i hit her and scared her by yelling at her...and now she is afraid of me..whenever she sees me she runs under the bed
i feel so bad it breaks my heart
and i dont know what to do...is she always gonna be afraid of me?
or can i earn her trust again?

also i have no food for her at the time
i only have cow milk..can she drink that? cause she looks hungry always checking her empty food plate
and if not what can i get her to eat?

and sorry i am new here and i dont know where to post this so i posted it here

Hi Carlos, obviously you feel bad about hitting her and hopefully will never do it again. She is afraid of you right now and it's hard to blame her. You can regain her trust, but you will need to be gentle and non threatening with her. Food would go a long way toward that. Cow's milk is not actually good for cats since they are lactose intolerant. It could cause tummy upset and diarrhea. Raw goat milk is ok for cats, but what she really needs is food, particularly meat as cats are obligate carnivores. Can you get her some canned cat food? If you have raw meat at home, that would work temporarily if she will eat it. You could also cook the meat, but no spices. I hope you will do the right thing for this cat who is dependent upon you for everything. Good luck and please ask more questions if we can help in any way.

and i will never do it again

and now she seems fine..she does not run from me anymore but she also dont want me to hold her
i cooked her a chicken breast boiled it with water
and though she refused to eat it from my hand she ate it on her plate
she seems bored as usual searching for something to scratch ^_^

thanx alot vball

....alright..
i have another question
last time i gave her a bath she was scared as hell
and it was really hard bathing her
and drying her was even harder
is there a good way to give her a bath that wont kill my back
and wont make her afraid?

(i used warm water for bathing
and a towel and a hair dryer to dry her)

Hey, red.

A lot of stuff here concerns me.

First of all -- and this is really an immediate concern -- is food. Cooked chicken actually cooks off a lot of the nutrients cats need. Even raw meat by itself isn't nutritionally complete. There needs to be bones and organs as well. Cats can develop nutritional deficiencies and even liver disease from starvation very quickly, and it's important she eat a complete diet. Even dry food (which is far less than ideal in itself) is better than incomplete cooked meat.

Milk actually isn't very good for cats. Most cats can't digest it.

But my question is... if you can afford meat, which is one of the most expensive food items you could have gotten, why don't you have cat food? It's cheaper than the meat you bought.

My other concern is that it seems like your living situation is really unstable and cramped right now. I'm willing to bet this cat has been "passed around" a lot. Are you certain you can break that cycle? Are you certain you can keep this cat in tolerable living conditions for 10 to 20 years? They do feel stress and hurt when they're moved around and given away.

And if you can, here's another question. Cats don't understand our human standards; they have to be taught, and a certain amount of failure has to be tolerated. Your cat will always do things that annoy you. If she falls ill, she might urinate inappropriately, or vomit, or cry all night, or do all kinds of other things that could be considered "annoying." My elder cat was a full-time job in her last couple months. It was hard work, and extremely frustrating.

Are you sure you can keep your cool if you cat isn't perfectly behaved, or is too sick to be as tidy as you'd like?

Speaking of illness, what if Meme does get ill? Can you afford that?

This doesn't sound like a good situation for either one of you to me.

If she's scratching you, I would recommend you stop doing whatever is making her feel threatened.

Also, cats don't need baths unless they actually get dirty. They've very tidy animals, generally. There's no need to bathe her regularly.

well lilin
thank you for your concerns
1st about the food
at the time i did not have any cat food on me and the pet place that i buy cat food from is closed
so i had no choice

2nd concern yes i plan to live in this place for atleast 5 more years and the next time i move will be when i get married and will settle in another place

the only thing that she does that i find annoying is her scratching
she climbs me up and plant her claws in me which hurts..and i promise i will keep control of my temper and wont hurt her again

and if she gets ill yes i can afford her a visit to the vet

and it appears she likes me again
when i went to sleep she climbed over me and slept on top of me lol
she woke me up like 3 times and when ever am sitting around she always jumps on me and rests on top of me

so dont worry lilin and thanx for your concerns ^_^

Glad to hear that.

I'm glad she ate it. As Lilin mentioned, this is not a good diet to give her long-term as it is not nutritionally complete but in a pinch, if you have no other food, it's ok short-term.

she seems bored as usual searching for something to scratch ^_^

Does she have a scratching post or pad that she can use her claws on? This will help her stretch and keep her claws in good shape. It may also help her from scratching you less (and less painfully if she uses a scratching post regularly.

thanx alot vball

A lot of cats are afraid of water and hate to be bathed. It's really not necessary for indoor only cats unless she gets really dirty somehow.
I am glad to hear that things are better for you and Meme. I hope you have many happy years of companionship together.

The methods I have heard that work for biting kittens:

1. Hissing at her like mom/siblings would do
2. Clapping your hands loudly
3. Saying "ow" very loudly
4. Redirect her to a toy that she can bite

Just try them one at a time. Also you should never play with her with your hands. Hands are for petting only, no pouncing or play or gnawing. Good luck. :)

It sounds like something is amiss in her gut. Did you change anything about her diet lately?

Cat feces should be fairly solid, and it shouldn't smell all that much. Running and really smelly isn't normal.

If you're giving her any milk at all, stop doing that. A lot of cats can't digest dairy.

Perhaps try some grain-free, human grade canned foods and see if this helps.

Cats can get bored of the same food (called monotony effect). More importantly, it's good to provide a variety of foods for their different nutritional profiles and in case those brands/flavors get discontinued or recalled.

My sense is that if she was eating only dry food, and you switched her to canned without a transition, then the abrupt change in food is causing some digestive upset. While wet food is much better for cats, when switching from dry only, it should be done slowly and gradually. Once she is on an all wet food diet, you should be able to switch different canned foods without problems.

There is no legal definition for "human grade" pet foods. However, there are pet food manufacturers that market their foods as using human grade ingredients. How true that is, I don't know since there's no regulation or testing of that term.

What you want to look for are named meat ingredients (e.g. chicken is better than meat and meat by-products). The fewer grains, veggies and fruits the better. Cats have no nutritional need for carbohydrates in any form.

alright
so now should I put some dry food with her meals or keep as it is only canned?

also I was given this and told it was good for the upset stomach
it is for humans but I was told this should work for pets and that I should exchange her drinking water for this

I would give her some of her old dry food and give her a little canned to start. Gradually increase the canned and reduce the dry until she's on all canned. Maybe 10 days or so of this transition? Just see how her system handles it.

What is the product you were given? There are many human medications that aren't good for cats.
