Just had our "gourmet" lunch at Costco - hot dog and soda.

Anyway, it got me to wondering --- what do you put on your hot dog?

As for us - and maybe it's because we're originally from New York --- mustard and sauerkraut (and relish maybe). Sometimes I see people putting ketchup on their hot dog --- I couldn't do that --- but it's not as bad as seeing people putting mayo on their hot dogs!!

I guess maybe it's a regional thing --- but I just wondered what you put on hot dogs. We make a joke out of watching what people put on -- and when we see mustard and sauerkraut we always say "oh they're from New York"

I'm a vegetarian so they're not really a food staple for me.  LOL  But now and then if hubby's grilling them for himself, I'll grill a veggie dog for me.  For me it's Dijon mustard and ketchup.

How funny that ketchup on hot dogs seem so strange to you.  I think that's the only way we ate them growing up--ketchup and mustard.  I've never had one with sauerkraut on it!

You might be horrified at the way hubby eats them--mayo, ketchup, relish, mustard, onions, jalapeños--everything but the kitchen sink goes in those babies....

Mustard, sometimes kraut or shredded cheese. And it has to be Plochman's mustard.  I am from Denver and Arkansas.

Chili sauce and shredded cheese.  I don't eat them very often and when I do I get the Hebrew National ones.  I'm kind of funny about the mystery meat thing so I get the Kosher hot dogs.

Depends on what kind of dog, lol.

Just a a regular hot dog gets mustard, onions, and dill relish. NOT sweet relish, yuck! :lol3:

Bratwurst get brown mustard and sauerkraut.

I also love chili cheese dogs with mustard and onions... :anon:

Mustard and Relish.  Same with hamburgers.  I used to put ketchup on them decades ago, but now I rarely use it for anything but french fries.

For me it's just mustard on hot dogs

mayo on hamburgers

ketchup is for fries.

When I go to Mc Donalds, Wendy's I have to special order my burgers cause I hate mustard and ketchup mixed together.

Oh man; mustard and sauerkraut on a REAL good hotdog...mmmmm!!  Good stuff!  I try not to eat many hotdogs; but sometimes they are just so good!

But I enjoy them a variety of ways.  It just depends on my mood.  ketchup, mustard, and relish are things we keep on hand so likely to be used if we are home.  I don't often have sauerkraut on hand.  My Grandparents used to make their own so I guess I might be a bit of a snob in that department.  Some of the store stuff just doesn't hit the spot when that's what I want!

I don't eat hot dogs often. When I do, only Hebrew National---the others taste weird. For toppings I like raw onions, ketchup, and yellow mustard. I do like sauerkraut on a hot dog but it needs to be warmed up enough to not be too crunchy, and at home I'm too lazy to warm it up :tongue2:. So I only get kraut at a restaurant/stand that sells hot dogs. . .rare around here! Mostly when I'm traveling.

We don't do hot dogs that often anymore, but sometimes Rick will get very hungry for a dog. He eats ketchup and relish. I like mustard and sauerkraut (although I was born in NC), which I think is just because of my dad. I have a recipe for New York Pushcart Onion Sauce that is pretty good and I'll make it when we have a lot of people in and we do dogs and brats and burgers on the grill.

Love my sauerkraut on brats and dogs! I got spoiled, though, although not from my grandparents. Our local Lions Club makes tons of sauerkraut as a fundraiser in the fall and I always buy several quarts from them. I try to get enough to see me through the year, bag it into freezer bags or freezer containers and throw it in the freezer. I just love sauerkraut mixed with a ton of mashed potatoes.

Oops.....hot dogs. Back on track. While we will do them in the microwave, we really like to grill them. Or stick them on a wire roaster and roast them over an open campfire. Then I will gladly eat hot dogs.

Ugh .. no ketchup or may for me either

My preferred hot dog consists of a grilled piece of some form of Ekrich sausage, with mustard and sauerkraut.  Plain hot dogs for me are mustard and dill relish.  And. of course, the occasional indulgence in a Sonic foot long cheese coney that has chili, cheese, mustard and I always add jalapenos.  Sloppy good.  LOL

No ketchup, mustard or mayo.  I like chili beans with mine.  Also don't care for store-bought buns, Iike homemade bread.
