Today is 7.11.. and in the US, most 7-11 stores are offering FREE Slurpees! Go get one! Go!

My question is.. what's your favorite frozen drink? Do you go somewhere to get it or make it yourself? If you make it yourself, share the recipe?

I enjoy Dunkin' Donuts Caramel Coolatta. Nummy!

Love McDonald's mocha frappes!  When I'm on a "those things cost too much!" kick, I make lemon shake-ups at home.  I don't really follow a recipe.  I read one on line a few years back, and I just throw everything together.

I live on frozen drinks in summer... home made:

In the blender I put:
  • quite a bit of biodynamic low fat natural vanilla flavoured yoghurt
  • a big banana and/or half a mango (if they're in season) and/or half a rockmelon or honeydew melon
  • a large scoop of organic brown rice vanilla protein powder
  • one tray full of ice cubes
blend and drink (or sometimes, spoon!).. as you can see I'm a bit hit and miss with the amounts
... honeydew melons make it thinner, bananas thicker, etc

If it's just way too thick, add some organic low fat milk.

I always have way too much, so I make what's left over into ice-blocks.

We don't make frozen drinks. I don't know why, we just never did.

Rick has gotten on a serious iced coffee kick right now. We bought some Brew over Ice k-cups and some caramel coffee flavor stuff. And he's been having a good time with it.

I just stick with my diet Mt Dew. We do drink a lot of homemade iced tea.....mine is unsweetened, but he needs a bit of sugar in his.

Margaritas. :D

Seriously though, I even have them on the rocks. I'm not a big frozen drink person.

We love smoothies around here even though it never really gets hot where we live. Sometimes when you are having trouble with appetite and eating, a smoothie is like the cold version of soup, it's something that is easy to drink and gives you needed nourishment! You can also pretend it is a milkshake (with no guilt) for a snack.

When bananas are getting too ripe for anybody to eat, I peel them and freeze them until needed. The more ripe the banana, the sweeter the smoothie will be. For each person we throw in the blender:

2 bananas, peeled then frozen

1+ cup of milk (we use almond milk)

tablespoon of nut butter  (peanut and almond are both great)

You can throw in a handful of other fruit you have around, any berries or nectarines/peaches, pretty much anything but apples. Great way to use up fruit that is getting too ripe and not being eaten. The nut butters add a really nice richness to the drink (plus protein).

If the smoothie isn't sweet enough, add a spoonful of honey. A drop or two of vanilla is also very nice. Whirl and pour and yum.
