We have a four year old female cat, Nora, who we brought into the vet on Monday am because she was unable to urinate.  The vet did an x-ray and found that she was completely blocked and her bladder was very large.  They catheterized her to dislodge the stone and to empty her bladder.  We brought her home on Tuesday and after coming home, she would not eat or drink anything and continued to go to her litter box but could not produce anything.  We brought her back to the vet on Wednesday and she was blocked again, so we had surgery scheduled this morning to have the bladder stone removed.  We received a call this morning from the vet and apparently something went wrong with the fluids that she was receiving overnight and her abdomen was filled with fluids.  They drained the fluids, are doing bloodwork to try finding what may have caused this, and are trying to stabilize her so that surgery can be performed tomorrow to remove the bladder stone.  We of course want to do everything possible to keep Nora with us and healthy, but don’t want to put her through more that she can handle.  Through x-rays, we have found that she also has kidney stones.  Has anyone else had a similar experience or any thoughts, ideas or suggestions?

Thanks for the links vball. I'm sad to post that we just had to have Nora put to sleep as her systems were starting to shut down. After going to visit her and seeing how she looked, we knew it was the right decision.
