I would consider her a tortie with white.

She can be called calico as well, but her colors are mixed a bit more as torties are, calicos have more defined color areas.

A doll regardless :)

I would call her tortie and white.       Some people would call her a calico but the more strict definition is  mostly white with distinct patches of a red-based color and a black-based color.

Tortie = Tortoiseshell.

Ayla is a great looking cat -- wonderful face!   and her little white mitts are so cute.

As I understand it, Calico is the equvalent to the Tuxedo-pattern. Ie a black and white cat, having the black alike a jacket, is called for Tuxedo.

While a tortie having a jacket but multicolored is called for Calico.

If it is really fair can be discussed, but it seems it is so anyway.    :)

Ayla seems not to have a jacket as breast and tummy arent white ( although you can perhaps joke and say she has a trenchcoat, open in the throat...)

So Tortie and white.     Very pretty anyway, so no reason to be sorry!   :)

Lets see what Jondalar will have, as you know most cats like to have a companion?

Good luck!

ps.  Maew, did I get it right this time??  :)

Stefan,

You're sort of right.    I think SOME tortie & white cats with the white arranged in what some people colloquially call ( in black and white cats) " tuxedo" ,   would  fit the more narrow definition of " calico" .  but not all would.

There are 2  aspects  important in  what is the more strict definition of Calico .

1. .  The patches of color are supposed to be clear distinct patches,  not like   ' brindled'  with tiny bits of colors all mixed up together.     So even if the cat had the right amount of white,  but the red and black was all mixed up in tiny spots and narrow streaks mingling together like a Jackson Pollack painting,  that wouldn't fit their description of calico and if shown in that class   would be penalized.

2. The amount of white.     There's different ways that is  described    Some examples of patterns   people call " tuxedo" would be  enough white,  and some patterns  would not be enough white to meet how " Calico"  is described in some CFA breed standards.

For example some people call a black and white cat  a " tuxedo cat"  if there is just a little strip of white on the chest.   and that would not be enough white as what is mentioned in CFA breed standards for calico  color / pattern.

The Maine Coon standard is not very specific.  It just says " White predominant on underparts."

The Persian standard and Norwegian Forest Cat standard going into more detail about minimum areas that have to be white.

I could almost swear that I had heard at some time that at least one of the breed standards  that include the term Calico , used to say the cat should be 2 /3 white.  but maybe that  was more an " unwritten rule "  about what judges tend to like in some breeds.
