I was just getting ready to leave the house and I remembered that I am supposed to do the question of the day for Lauren. :doh3: You are going to get a bit of a random question because I haven't put much thought into it. :lol3:

What is the oldest thing in your refrigerator?

For me it is a tossup between some yeast that I use with the bread machine or some beer yeast and hops of my husband's for when he brews.

Haha--I have a jar of tahini waaaay in the back. I used about a tablespoon of it for a recipe once and never opened it again.  No idea how long it's been there (or why I keep it....)  LOL

It's a jar of barley malt (old, but still good and usable) that I use to make certain kinds of bread.

Probably Mustard.. I can't stand mustard and I had it since I moved into the apartment 5 years ago. That, or some chicken marinade.

Ha! Empty cat food cans. I keep them in the refrigerator so they don't stink up the house. I also have unused vegetable parts and meat packaging in the freezer for the same reason -- I don't have a good garbage disposal, and I live in an apartment, so going down to the trash every time I cook just isn't convenient.

When I was a really lazy grad student, I put dirty dishes in the fridge so that I wouldn't attract bugs.

I think it's a jar of some fancy mustard type dip I picked up at a kitchen outlet.  It's tasty; but I can only eat so much of it myself.  It's way in the back and really just needs to be tossed.  I bet if my husband tossed it I wouldn't miss it.

I just checked and found some vanilla beans that I've had in there for over a year!

They're still wrapped in their alfoil and plastic, so still bendy and fresh... Thanks for getting me to search the far corners!

:thanks: Karen for doing the question and a good one at that! Better than what I could have come up with yesterday. :lol3: Most of the stuff we have is fairly new since we just moved six months ago and I didn't bring too much along. BUT guess I never checked on everything before the move. :nothappy:

A bottle of Lemon Juice! Checked the expiration date too. 2/2012.... time to toss that one. :lol2:

Two cans of Coors Light.  I don't really drink much beer and my son-in-law left it in my refrigerator in 2011.  I know because it was the weekend of their wedding and the libations were free flowing that weekend.  And every time I see it in the refrigerator I think I should throw it out but then what if he asks me about it and I don't have it.  It probably would taste horrible now ... I don't know.  Lol!  :)

Great question, espeically last minute!  :)
