Hi everyone!

I lost a 6 month old kitten to FIP (wet) about 2 weeks ago. The house feels so empty without the pitter patter of her little feet that my family wants to adopt again eventually. Let me back track, we adopted two kittens on December 1st 2012. We lost one to FIP 2 weeks ago. The other is a big healthy boy. I disinfected the house and litter box and have read that FIP takes a few weeks to die out and that it doesn't typically stay alive on its own for very long.

I was at a vet visit this past weekend and she suggested waiting a month or so before adopting again. Does anyone else have any suggestions or insight on this?

Thank you!

But FIP isn't contagious... :dk: It's the corona virus, and either a cat is pre-disposed to the mutation or not. In fact, researchers at Cornell JUST found the ... source of the mutation from the (relatively harmless) corona virus to the deadly version: http://news.cornell.edu/stories/2013/06/discovery-offers-hope-against-deadly-cat-virus

But since it must have been so hard on you and your family to lose a little one to the disease, to be on the safe side, wait either the two weeks or the month?

:hugs:
