It's funny because I had a big wedding and I wish I'd gone for small and simple.  I was married in a church in front of about 200 people (I knew about 20) in a church wearing a dress and veil that dragged several feet behind me.  Then, we were wisked away by limo to our reception in a fancy hotel ball room to dance the night away.  It was the storybook fairytale wedding...and I can't remember much of it!  We've been married for 11 years and if I could go back and do it all again, I'd get married, just the 2 of us, then have a simple backyard party for our closest family and friends.

My fondest memory of my wedding was the wedding night...and not for THAT reason.  We were both exhausted, hadn't had time to eat any of the food from the reception and basically spent our time meeting and greeting the guests.  We rarely saw each other!!!  We walked up to our room around 2am (the cab was coming to take us to the airport at 5am) and our planner had sent a tea cart to our room with a sample of all the food and even 2 slices or cake!  What I remember most was sitting with my husband and having a picnic on our bed!  All the other "stuff" that had taken over my life for the past 11 months was over and I could finally relax and enjoy being married.  <3

Oh yeah...forgot the details.  We were married in 2002 and have been married for 11 years.  It was in a church and yes, I had the dress.  It weighed a ton and I couldn't breath.  I don't recommend it!  LOL!

35 years is saying something!  Weddings are special; but they are just one day.  I was listening to a thing the other day and they were talking about how much people put into planning weddings; but not preparing for marriage.

DH and I just celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary.  We had a good size traditional church wedding; around 200 or 250 people.  Other than the fact that it poured the entire day; it was wonderful.  Overwhelming though too.  But it was what we wanted and I knew my family was dreaming of it in their own ways too.

My cousin and her husband got married at the court house with just parents, siblings and one uncle.  She had a dress;but it was a short dress, not your traditional long gown with a train.  Neither really enjoy the spotlight like that.  They compromised with their mothers by having a reception a few months later with all the traditional dances, cake, etc.  It was a wonderful time and made up for not being able to see them get married myself.  My cousin was one of 2 maid of honors I had. So her wedding was very different; but it suited them.  I don't think they will have any regrets.  Our grandfather passed between the time of her wedding and the reception.  So the way I see it; he might not have lived to see them married if they'd waited to do it all on one day.
