My 2 cats came from a feral colony right outside my apartment and I have been helping all the ferals outside since I first noticed them when I moved to my place last year.

I'm a fisherman who sometimes comes home with a few catches. I filet the fish on my back deck, which is when the ferals all come running over waiting for me to give them food. I toss stuff such as skin, head, guts, tail, backbone, etc to them and most eat. I'll even come home with smaller fish from smaller ponds just for the ferals, which is a good way for controlling overpopulation of certain fish.

2 other neighbors in the building I live in feed the ferals everyday, with 1 being the morning person and the other being the afternoon. I'm the evening/night feeder.

2 certain ferals let me hand feed them. 1 is one of Dolly's sister who even meows at me begging for food and the other is a tabico kitten.

I also leave a plate outside of any fish or meat remainders after cooking.

2 other items I leave outside for them are a small glass tray filled with water and a cheap litter box with an old towel folded in it.

Anything such as old socks, belt, or strips of run down pants I have nailed for them to play with.

Here's pics of certain ferals relaxing outside my apartment or waiting for food. 2 other pics show the September litter trapped to get fixed before releasing.

Dolly's sister is the tuxedo and her brother is the tiger. The sister is friendly and would make a good house cat. The brother would make a good house cat too. He is more of a hunter than the sister because he doesn't mind grinding through a fish's head or a small catch.

The tabico is a very sweet kitten who doesn't mind being hand fed and would make a good house cat.

The long hair is the master and mother of all ferals. She is a hisser at other animals and her own cats but would make a good house cat.

The white cats are 2 of Wren's sisters. Both are on the shy side.

Nice and swell, but I havent heard you mention spaying / neutering them?   THIS is a key for succesfull helping of ferals.  To stop these individuals to multiply.  Being spayed, their personal life gets also easier.  etc, etc...

HOW to do it, and pay for vets costs, is the next question, but it is usually possible to solve, this way or another.

Also, you mention some of them could be good house cats. Have you more planes for them?  Ie, the trapping is surely no big deal, but before you send them to a good adopter, somebody must foster them, preferably inside.  Do you have plans for it?

If you cant yourself, so you can perhaps try and find some good rescue group, they do such things.

Tx a lot for caring!

  Good luck!

Welcome to our Forums!

ps.  I see a couple of pict they are apparently inside a cage.  What is happening there?

The others are on your deck, so they apparently are no longer ferales, sooner semi-ferales, tx to you!    :)

All have gotten "fixed", as in spayed/neutered. I kept in touch with a local feral clinic for months last year until one person finally got in touch with me. People from the complex I live in pitched in to help raise money to hire trapping and getting all of them "fixed".

I did all the trapping on my rear deck.

There used to be more living outside, but once all got fixed, I took 2, one neighbor took 1, and another neighbor took 2.

Other people seem to not want to adopt any. 2 are enough for me for now. One neighbor already had 3 or 4 cats.

I see. Well and creativitely done, SirMadame!   :)

So what is lacking for new, is essentially if you can find some more good adoption home...

Just to hold your eyes open, and continue to search.   :)

Good luck!

Thank you for sharing the photos. It's so nice to see all those cats being taken care of. They look really happy, nice and plump with bright eyes. You're lucky to have such co-operative neighbours.

Well done for taking care of them all.

You are doing a fabulous job!  How wonderful that you and your neighbors all work together to help your colony.  Do they have shelter from rain/snow?  All of your pictures are wonderful, they look so happy and content.

2 places they take cover in are underneath the decks and a hollow area they made for themselves along a small cliff.
