I honestly don't know. I'd ask the vet! The point isn't second-guessing, it's learning. Is the nutrients in the IV solution enough to prevent fatty liver? Or at some point will he need to be syringe fed? :dk:

Just got home from the vet! He ate a good meal this morning and is bright and chipper. I have to leave home for a few days so my parents are going to watch him. He will love all the attention and moist food! Saw your PM - I'll write back soon (more questions) but it is great info!!! Thanks!

I feel very lucky to have my vet and her staff. I was highly distressed and they have gone above and beyond to take care of him. I wasn't able to pay in full today, but I paid most and will finish it up next week. Really, I don't know what I would do without her and her staff. My best advice from all this is to make sure you find someone you trust because the relationship we have has put me at such ease.

I am a bit devastated. It is small cell lymphoma. Early on so he will have a few more years. Not ready to begin the research. Have a week left as he recovers from his surgery before I begin heavy research. I am heartbroken.

Oh no! *hugs* D:

When I'd hoped you would have a definitive diagnosis, I did mean this! :'(

Well, it's still early which gives you lots of options. They're doing amazing stuff with chemo and radiation, even stem cells and cancer vaccines. I know that he's very lucky to have such a loving mom like you!

I'm seeing a specialist next Friday. If you have any good advice on questions to ask or things to look out for, it would be greatly appreciated.
I know I want to talk about diet changes and supplements. I believe that a medical plus holistic approach is going to be best. I sign up to that Yahoo group btw. Just waiting for approval.
I have seen enough articles that give me a glimmer of hope. He's always been a strong boy and there is a part of me that just has to believe he is one of those cats that can recover. Going to a wet only diet this week has already made him peppier and more energetic.

I am sorry to hear this diagnosis. LDG's Lazlo did get treatment for large cell lymphoma and went into full remission, so there's always hope. Many, many vibes for you and Kinko.

Well, after a little reading, I think he has a good chance, too! \o/ LDG gave great advice about it here. Good information here, too.

Sorry I don't have any specific questions you can ask. It seems like maintaining appetite is something that you'll have to work on, so maybe have appetite stimulants on hand in case you need them. Something to think about holistically is healing energy. Possibly contacting a communicator so that you can express your "plan" with Kinko, letting him know what to expect, and asking him what his needs are.

The owner of the group hasn't posted in a while, so she may be getting to your request soon. They really have great advice. I have a feeling you'll be in information overload soon.

So good that he's feeling better! I also saw a difference when I went all moist food. I'll keep sending good vibes your way!

Oh, I forgot! Acupuncture worked wonders for Tobie, even at the end of her life. She really perked up and was more alert and purred more afterwards. It's just one more thing to add to your holistic arsenal if you need it. :)

I'm so sorry for this news. :( Let's all just hope he handles the chemo well. Most cats tolerate the leukeran really well.

A high protein, low carb diet will be best. Do be aware when seeing the specialist that anti-oxidants interfere with chemo, so holistic support can include acupuncture, diet, and supplements, but not antioxidants.

Egg yolks and sardines, if he likes them, are excellent sources of vitamin D, which is being used in pets and people as an anti-cancer agent. The connection between vit D and the immune system is a hot topic of investigation, but one thing is clear: vitamin D is far more than just a component of calcium uptake.

I give Lazlo 10mg of ubiquinol daily (the active form of CoQ10). You can buy a bottle that dispenses the right amount at Mercola.

He also gets 250mg of Jarrow Formulas lactoferrin, and 10 billion CFU of probiotics. I use human probiotics, the Natural Factors double strength acidophilus+bifidus with goat milk. Immune system health starts in the gut, that is becoming well documented.

Finally, he gets 500mg of omega3s via Pure Alaska Omega salmon oil. I use that one because it is not heat extracted. The omega3s are anti-inflammatory. :rub:

You might want to wait to discuss these with the oncologist, and if these are ok, slowly introduce one at a time.

:vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :hugs:

Thank you all for the good thoughts and GREAT information. I am hopeful and would like to believe he has more happy years ahead of him. Whatever the outcome I just want him to be comfortable and know he is loved by us.

I am so sorry it wasn't better news, but at least you do HAVE a diagnosis and can now begin a treatment plan.  AND, you've got people here who have gone thru something similar who I see have already given you great talking points for the oncologist.

I LOVE the idea of having a communicator talk to your furbaby and let him know what is happening
. ( I think LDG did that just to make sure Lazlo wanted to go thru with the treatment.  )

I totally agree with this and definitely plan on getting one as well as reaching out to the pet communicator.

Would these supplements be suitable for my cat who had bladder stones? Ideally it would be great if I could feed all four of my cats the same thing at the same time.

Thank you for your kind words. I'd do anything for my babies! I just have to know when I'm being selfish. Right now he is nuzzling in my lap making it hard to type. His purring is like him saying - I'm still me! And he has retuned to his usual frisky self on the diet change alone. I'm hopeful!

Am definitely doing this! I'm writing up my list for next Friday. I hope he is open to holistic ideas as well as chemo. I think an approach using both could be most successful.
