How often should my adult cat be going #2?  I thought it should be once a day but I've noticed lately he will go a few days in between and it worries me.  He eats both wet & dry food.  If it is once a day, are there any feline laxatives anyone can suggest or anything to keep him regular?  He always has a constant fresh supply of water.

It can vary. Usually once every 24-36 hours. Some cats might go a little longer than that. I don't recommend laxatives.

If he is eating well, not vomiting, or straining in the litter box, and the stools, when they do come, are normal, there is probably nothing to worry about.

If he'll let you, watch him the next time he poops. Does he seem to strain a lot? (some pushing is normal) Does he take a long time, or keep changing positions, stop and start again and again?

Is the stool overly large, (indicating it has been building up too long) or very hard and dry? The stool should look like ....... either a long piece that you can see will break into sections, or they drop as sections as they come out. No round pieces.(hard round stool is very difficult for a cat to pass and may indicate a problem)

I would increase the canned food, and decrease the dry. Make sure the foods are low fiber. Brush him daily.
