Hi I don't know if anyone has advice, or can help, our lovely boy max had to have all his teeth out due to calicify virus and gingivitis:( he had six out about three months ago and was on interferon after which didn't work. Last time he recovered so quick, on day four now still not eating more than a bite or drinking, back to vets today I feel like I sent him to the butchers, his poor wee face. HAs anyone else experienced this? I would be so grateful for any thoughts. Thankyou.

Well, at the vet is the best place for him if he's not eating, if you left him there? They can keep him hydrated as he starts to feel better. He's probably in considerable pain. They gave you pain meds? Oral pain meds would be difficult after such a surgery, so they can give him injections for that at the vet too. Or attach a pain patch.

Welcome to TCS. Please keep us posted on your precious boy. It's awful when they are sick, I know.

You did the right thing.  I'll bet he comes home in much better condition.  BTW, cats do fine without teeth largely because they don't really chew their food much.  I had an older gal in the shelter who had all her teeth removed and still ate dry food, just gumming and swallowing!  And she was adopted too!

My Kittie Lea had all her teeth out except one and she is putting on weight and is such a happier cat. Hang in there as it does get better - I also took her off fish before she had her teeth out and her mouth improved a lot after a vet told me that 1/3 of cats with gum problems have a fish allergy. It worked with Lea she has Stomatitus so it could be something to consider - their gums harden and they can even eat dry food eventually as lea is always pinching food off the other cats plate!
