I went to Grand Forks, ND the last week of May. I'm large and find that Catherine's has a nice selection of pretty clothing for the plus size woman. If you apply for a credit card and use it, you get 15% off your purchase, so that's what I did.
I didn't have any cash with me to pay the bill with, so I asked if I could pay it using my Master Card, then I could just pay that using my bank account. Apparently you couldn't do that. So I went home and decided to send a money order as soon as I got home.
Talk about hard to pay a bill!! I got the credit card in the mail, and it said to send payments to the address on the statement. But I didn't have a statement. I called Catherine's and they told me I had to wait for the statement. So I waited.
I got the statement on June 20th, and it was due on June 26th!! The address to send payment to was Texas. I tried paying with my master card over the telephone, they wouldn't take it. I tried signing up for debit payment on their website, but I don't have a US bank account. SO my only option was to send a cheque or money order.
I called the bank in Texas the next day and explained the problem and told them that I was mailing a money order that evening. The girl said that they would waive the late fee.
Yesterday I got my statement. The payment was posted on July 2nd. But they charged me interest and a late fee of $25.00.
I called today expecting to have to fight to have that late fee removed. Colour me surprised when the girl said that she had removed the fee and the interest charge. They realize that us Canadians don't get the statements until late.
I was very pleasantly surprised.
Next time I go to Grand Forks, I'm taking US cash with me so that I can purchase on the credit card and then just make a cash payment right then and there.
