I recently got a kitten who now is 5 months and growing fast.  My older cat who is not old (less than 5) but seems to have turned into an "old" cat since I brought Sammy, my kitten,) home:(

Ollie , my older cat welcomed him like he was his own.  I was totally amazed how they took to each other.

Now, 3 months later Ollie is not as patient with the kitten who is getting more playful with him.  It seems like the kitten always wants to play with Ollie but he is not as receptive  and hisses at him all the time.  It hurts me so I scold Ollie for hissing.  I'm afraid it will get worse as the kitten gets older.  Any advise is welcomed.  I am a person that is not good with conflict anyway.

awe sweetie dont worry so much! hissing is common and okay as long as its not violent fighting or biting. even a mother cat hisses at her youngins when shes annoyed by them. its there way of saying "no!" my kitten (a mutt) is my grey tabbys shadow. but sadly my grey tabby isnt as fond of playing as he is and also hisses and or runs away. in time he will mellow out. also i have 3 cats so when my grey tabby doesnt wish to play he goes to my tuxedo kitty whom plays a bit rough and never lets him win. try to buy him things to entertain him such as catnip toys. i personally make crochet catnip toys for my cats.

Thank you so much for your words.  I already feel better about it.  I didn't know that a mother cat will hiss at her "youngins"  I was fearful that he would hurt the kitten.  I am a worrier and already thinking how Ollie my older cat, will behave when the kitten really gets active and curious.  I don't like fighting in any thing or any body.  LOL  I guess I will have to learn some skills myself:) and I guess my cats will teach me if I can calm down.

We had a similar situation and the advice we got was to get a second cat of similar age as the kitten so they could play together.  Sounds crazy, but worked great (see Mr. Lahey and Randy below, 2 days after meeting).  They played together and largely left our older cat alone.
