My partner and I got our cat, Pascal, from the shelter about two months ago. Since bringing her home, she has had a slew of problems with her bum

Within the first week of bringing her home, we took Pascal to the vet to make sure she had a clean bill of health. We did a stool sample and it came up negative for worms. She was pretty constipated and had a mass of hairballs, but was otherwise fine. We started giving her Laxatone and the constipation cleared up.

Shortly after, Pascal started scooting her bum on the floor. After perusing this site and others, I realized that she might have an anal gland issue. I waited a bit to see if it cleared up, but when her bum started looking red, I took her back to the vet. The vet expressed her anal glands and said there was a bit in there. It didn't smell at all.

Pascal didn't stop scooting and her bum started looking more and more angry. I made an appointment with the vet and again took her in. The vet did a full examination and said everything was fine other than a small hairball that he pulled out. He again expressed her glands and there was a bit in there, but not a lot. Again, it did not smell. I had a conversation with the vet about doing a worming treatment, but I explained that I didn't think it was really necessary since she had recently had a stool sample. He said he wanted to give her an anti-inflammatory, which I later found out was depo-medrol, something I wouldn't have consented to giving my cat without a specific reason. The shot made Pascal very ill that evening.

When I checked out of the office, the assistant charged me for a worming pill. I told her that the vet hadn't done a worming treatment, but she insisted that a pill had been giving to Pascal. I was standing there the whole time, but Pascal is really well behaved, so there is a slim possibility that I wouldn't have seen the vet administer a pill. Regardless, I don't believe she received a worming pill. There were a few other weird circumstances at that appointment, so I'm currently looking for a new vet.

Anyway, it's now a week later and I've spotted a little white thing coming out of Pascal's bum. So here are my questions: 1. Does anyone know how long worms will be expelled from a cat after a worming treatment? 2. Does anyone know if an anal gland issue can cause something that looks like a worm? 3. Does anyone know if there is a minimum amount of time required between worming treatments (in the case that the vet actually gave Pascal a pill)?

Thanks!

Sorry, I don't know the answers to any of your specific questions, but would like to point out that cats with worms can have full bellies, so if Pascal has/had a full, round belly, that might support the worm theory.

Thanks for the response! She's a pretty skinny kitty. The only time her stomach has seemed oddly round was when she was constipated. I think that was mainly because she was terrified at the shelter and probably wasn't drinking much water.

Just a follow up for anyone who might experience something similar, I took Pascal to a new vet and she said that it looks like some sort of a food allergy. Pascal is now on a hypoallergenic diet and I haven't seen her scoot in at least a week!
