I just got my new kitten Bear yesterday, she's eight weeks old, and a little tabby maniac :)
She seems to be fitting in well so far.
I am just wondering about food, at the moment I am leaving down a mix of wet and dry food all day, I put her over to her bowl at eight in the morning, one o clock, and half five, just so she can have a routine, but also have a little snack if needs be.
Is that okay for her? And is there any information I need to know, I want to make her transition into my house as peacefull as possible.
She is also booked in for her first injection on Thursday, so I there anything I can do for her to make her feel a bit calmer when that done?

A kitten should be fed four times a day. Do you mean that you have dry food down all day? If you leave the wet down for a long time, it can develop bacteria that could result in tummy upset and diarrhea. Mixing the wet and dry in the same dish seems to be counterproductive. She will start wanting the high carbs from the dry, when what she needs is the protein and fat from the wet.  Whatever you do, let her eat as much as she wants.

Welcome to TCS. Why don't you start a thread on New Cats on the Block and introduce yourself and Bear. Be sure to post some pictures of Bear. We all love to see pictures.

I have the mix of wet and dry down all day. I only put in two tablespoons of each, so it shouldn't be down for longer than 3 days at a time. Is that too long?

Thanks for your advice. Yes I will definitely get myself over there and post some photos! :)

I have a 4 1/2 month old kitten and she still eats 4 times a day.  Our feeds: first thing in the morning, lunch time,  dinner time 5 or 6pm and once before I go to bed for the night.  I was leaving dry food down, but I have pulled up the dry food after deciding to feed can food.  I discard any can food that has been down more than an hour or so.  Bacteria can grow if the can food is left down too long and I know all the cats I have had would turn their noses up at the food after it is left down for more than an hour or two.

Can food is much healthier option than dry food, because it has more moisture in it.  Cats do not typically drink enough water to compensate for the dryness of the dry food.   My last two cats suffered from kidney failure so I am not feeding dry food this time around in an effort to keep this kitty from suffering from similar issues.

This is the website that is recommended the most about feeding on here:

Cat Info

I found this a very good read and had my DH read it as well.
