My IBD cat will only eat nature's variety lamb (it's a novel protein for him) and my Vet just said that liver is bad for IBD cats. Opinions?

Cats with IBD can get irritated by many different things. If he has tolerated the liver than you should be fine though he may develop an intolerance later so it would probably be good to find another protein he will eat.

Okay thanks. Back to the drawing board. Vet gave me Z/D to try. He will not touch any RC Hypoallergenic.

No need to go back to the drawing board the nature's variety lamb is fine if he doesn't have a reaction to it. I would just also try to get him used to another food/protein at some point.

Are you using dry or wet foods?

And are you familiar with http://www.ibdkitties.net? This is probably the best resource out there for people with IBD kitties. The site owner has worked with vets that specialize in IBD for all the information up there.

And your vet is incorrect about liver. It is very individual per cat. Many people on this site switched to raw food for their cats when nothing else helped resolve their kitties' IBD and liver is a critical component of a raw food diet - and their cats are doing great. So liver is definitely not "by definition" a problem for cats with IBD.

Liver is the only organ my rawfed IBD kitties get and they're fine.

Okay
Thanks for the additional feedback. He'll eat the Z/D so now I have two proteins.

My IBD cat ate NVI venison ( canned and raw),  and also freeze-dried venison liver treats and did not ever have a problem with it.

Very familiar with the site. Wet mostly. I have two MC kittens which also get this brand of wet with some dry on the side (would prefer no dry but I don't want the kittens to get in the habit of inhaling wet when fed only 2 / day) .
