Ever since we moved Jake has been acting different. It could be the stress from moving, I don't know, but he is just not as happy anymore, he hides for a few hours at a time and just withdraws. He  eats and uses the litter box as normal, however before he used to jump and run after toys and now he will only do it if I really entice him..We did have a long play session yesterday with da bird but it used be he would initiate play time, now I had to really try to get his attention.

He also used to just playfully jump and wrap his paws around my ankle as I was walking to "tackle me"...now he just looks at me and his eyes follow me wherever I go but doesn't really go after me ...

I will take him to the vet in a few minutes, but I am unsure if taking him to the vet is the best thing to do right now- won't it add to the stress he is already feeling??

I don't know, I am just worried. Anyone have experiences with cats and moving? I did move all of my things first, made sure everything was settled before I brought him over. So he wasn't living the chaos that happens with moving, he was safe at my parents house for a while after i moved.. I am not sure if it's stress or if it's anything else..

Now is also a good time to ask the vet if his breath smells normal, I had posted about that before thinking he might have bad breath..we will see.

Mariya, how long ago did you move?

All cats adjust at different rates. When we moved into a house from the RV, Tuxedo was out and about day one; Spooky, however, hid under the cedar chest in the bedroom for about two weeks. She did a little exploring at night when it was dark. But it took her about a month to go down the stairs.

Of course, sometimes stress can trigger an illness, so a vet visit is always a good idea.

But it can take a while for kitties to adjust to a new environment. Have you sprayed any Feliway, used plug-ins, or tried Bach's Rescue Remedy? Those might help if the vet doesn't find anything wrong. :vibes: :vibes: :vibes:

Thanks Laurie, I may try Feliway, I have never tried that before. I moved a while ago but brought Jake with me about  3 weeks ago.

The vet did not find anything wrong visibly, he said he looks good, his weight was exactly the same....I was expecting that of course. Also his teeth and mouth are normal so there is nothing going on there to cause bad breath. He didn't say his breath smelled abnormal though, so that was probably just me overreacting.

He is sending a blood and urine sample to a lab and will let me know the results tomorrow. I just want to rule out anything that could be wrong.
I also went on vacation this past weekend so Jake stayed with my parents again. All this moving back and forth can't be good for him :(

Yeah, it sounds like there's been a lot of turmoil for him recently, and that's probably what it is. He just needs some times for routines to settle in, I think. I'd definitely try both Feliway and Bach's Rescue Remedy. Neither will hurt, and they may help. :heart2: For the next few weeks, stick to as much of a routine as you can, and maybe establish a new one - like giving him a favorite treat at a certain time, or if he's like my cats, he loves being brushed in the bathroom or just before bed or something, and make sure to do that. :rub:

Otherwise just keep talking to him, telling him this is home now. :)

It may take some time, especially having gone to your folks after moving.

The thing that scares me is that we are going on a cruise in August, so he will have to stay with my parents again for a week. And, my parents will be out of town for 4 of those days so he will have to be taken somewhere to be boarded :( Unless I can find a sitter for that time. That will probably be better for him. Maybe I can even convince my parents to come feed him and play with him when they come back... we will see. They really like having him there though...
