I am trying to find a nutritional and healthy canned cat food food that contains no grains, carrageenan, etc.
My cat loves chunky/shredded food with GRAVY.
I just came across Soulistic brand and note it does not contain the bad additives you always see on labels.
I no longer live near a health food pet store and unfortunately have to resort to Petsmart, Petco, etc.
I'm reluctant to buy online until I know my cat will love his new food.
Can anyone tell me if they have had any experience with the Soulistic chicken in gravy?

Welcome to The Cat Site.  You're a good momma to want to fed good food to your furball.

If you haven't already, check out some of the articles in the Health section. www.catcentric.org is a good resource too.

When I was feeding canned, Ritz liked Soulistic a lot.  But it has Tapioca Starch, which is a carbohydrate, so kind of high in carbohydrates but relatively low in calories.  The Gelee has Carrageenan which some cats react negatively too.  Gravy style canned food tends to be higher in carbohydrates than pate.  Give fish flavored canned food only occasionally.  And remember that 'no grain' doesn't mean 'no carbohydrate'.

Petsmart and Petco have increased their high quality canned foods, due in part to consumers like yourself.  Evo, B.G., Taste of the Wild get high marks from cat lovers.

IMHO, you pick the best of the good, and try not to sweat the small stuff.  You need to find out what the 'big' stuff is according to YOUR cat.  Some cats are allergic to Carrageenan, chicken, pea, etc.; other cats, can eat anything and it doesn't affect them.

So, buy a can of this, a can of that, and see how your cat likes it.

I agree with everything Ritz said.  All the way down to the fact that when I fed canned, my cats also liked Soulistic!  (Ritz and I both now feed our cats raw if you're wondering
)

Is the perfect canned food out there?  Probably not.  I still spend probably hours a week looking, simply because I have one furry little beastie that sometimes goes on a raw strike and wants canned food.  But the best we can do is find something close to perfect and hope they'll eat it
.  And if they do, and we buy a case or two via the internet, then we'd better keep our fingers crossed that they keep liking it

Mine also only like meat in gravy. I believe solistic is by the same company as weruva and my guy does like weruva but I haven't fed it in a while because it is very low in calories and I have a kitten. Tiki cat is also a similar brand but has less carbs and my cats like it better. Where I live the sell both of these brands in almost every pet store but I live in Canada and we don't have petco.

A food I have had a lot of success with is natures variety instinct pride. It is minced or shredded meat in gravy and both of my cats love it. It also does not have carageenan. I also see it at all the pet stores around here. Also have you tried asking the stores to order food in for you?

I finally weaned my very picky 16 year old cat off of dry kibble since he's been a kibble addict all of his life.

He really likes Nutro Natural Choice wet canned cat food. It is grain free, has no vegetables, has taurine in it, but no carrageenan. All of the food is made from three plants in the United States. Right now, it only comes in 3 ounce cans. It comes in sliced, minced, loaf (pate) and chunky loaf. He prefers sliced and minced. If he doesn't eat the the entire small can, after putting it in the fridge for the next meal, the gravy does not turn white. You can buy it at both Petco and Petsmart.

I've been trying out different flavors on him and so far; he likes sliced turkey, minced chicken, sliced chicken & tuna, sliced salmon and waiting in the wings for him for a taste test is a can of sliced turkey & salmon.

So far, the only flavor he doesn't care for is the minced chicken & shrimp.

Click on the link below and then navigate to the sliced and minced food textures. Look at the some of the flavors and check out their ingredients.
