About two weeks ago I rescued a feral kitten from my back yard. For about two days we gave her time to adjust in my room to get use to everything and then I let her run free and she eventually got along we one of my cats. (My other cat is a hard cookie to crack but with time!) On Wednesday night she was sitting in the window with my cat who doesn't like her too much at around 3:00 AM. (I have no idea how they were getting along for so long without fighting) And then it happened. The window CRASHED on this little kittens head and within 30-45 seconds we got her out and the closest animal hospital is about 5 hours away. And we called all the vets in town and they kept redirecting us. But luckly my friend who lives 36 hours away managed to help and she was a very lucky cat. She ended up to only be bleeding out her nose! And no other damage besides what we thought at the time was a "broken nose" We put her in the carrier for the night and since we were waiting 5 hours anyway we decided to go at 8 AM to our local vets. I ended up staying up all night with her and waking her up every 10 minutes. At about 7:30 AM we did call the vet and they told us to give her some water and wet food. We had put the carrier on the ground and this cat tried and started to escape from it! She did end up escaping from it and laying in her bed and eating her normal food which was in our room. We took her to the doctors and found our she had a fractured cheek bone. They gave her a shot for pain and swelling (which did bring all the swelling down) They thought she would of had a cracked or even broken skull. They said she was very lucky to be alive and to have such a small injury. They also sent her home with 7 days of medicine. About 2 days in with meds she was back to her normal crazy self. (If not even crazier.) Tomorrow is her last day of meds and I was wondering if she would be in a lot of pain after that? She seems to be playing just fine (if not more) and eating and going to the bathroom and sleeping just fine. It just worries me that she'll go back to being in pain. :(

Cats manage some pain quite well. Or rather - SOME pain may be useful. As the fissure is probably not entirely healed as yet, so it is surely best she dont move too vigorously.  And pain will be the natural warning sign for her: as long as she takes it easy with playing, only calm play, it will be OK.

I understand she cant be real semi-feral, she seems to have adjusted very well and very quickly. So probably dumped or gone astray.  It is easy done with kittens if they are allowed alone too soon - kittens have no feeling of own territory, and thus, they easy wander astray. They perhaps run after a fly...

Well done by you and her!!!

How did it happened the window broke?  Were they pushing on it? Did soemone  threw a stone from outside? I suspect there were some fissure in the window glass already...

Good luck!

This little cat sure knows her limits sometimes. It only seems when she takes her medicine she gets hyper. But beyond that she plays a little and stops. I also know for a fact this kitten is very feral. Our back yard is the breeding grounds for feral cats. We have one mom mainly who keeps having babies. She only has boy babies aside from 2 girl babies. (Which we took inside with us!) They both look very much the same except one is 8 weeks and one is about 1 year and a half. And as for the window falling on her our windows are very unstable. Needing to be kept up by things and such. It just fell down. Something must of been knocked down that held the window up. But besides all that she does seem to be healing really good. Her cheek/eye are starting to look like her other side again and I'm so proud of her.

This is her before everything:
This was her the day after:
This was her yesterday:
And her sister Ethel:
